The U.S. Secret Service confirmed early Sunday that agents shot and killed an armed man who allegedly attempted to breach security at President Trump’s Mar-A-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida.
According to officials, the incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. near the north gate of the property. Agents, working alongside a deputy from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, responded to what was described as an unauthorized breach attempt.
Authorities said the suspect, believed to be in his early 20s, was carrying what appeared to be a shotgun and a fuel can when confronted. During the encounter, shots were fired and the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials confirmed that no Secret Service agents or local deputies were injured. President Trump was not present at Mar-A-Lago at the time of the incident. When authorities said there were no Secret Service protectees on the property, they meant that none of the individuals under active Secret Service protection, including the president or his immediate family, were on site.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation is leading the probe into the shooting, working in coordination with the Secret Service and local law enforcement. As is standard procedure in officer involved shootings, the agents who discharged their weapons have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the suspect or provided additional details regarding motive as the investigation remains ongoing.
