Armed Suspect Shot Dead by Federal Immigration Agents in Minneapolis During Targeted Operation

An armed suspect was fatally shot by federal immigration authorities Saturday morning during a Homeland Security operation in Minneapolis, after reportedly confronting agents with a semi-automatic handgun and two loaded magazines.

According to a statement from the Department of Homeland Security, the incident occurred near 26th Street and Nicollet Avenue during a targeted operation to apprehend an illegal immigrant wanted for violent assault. As agents from U.S. Border Patrol moved in, a separate individual approached them with a firearm and attempted to interfere.

“The officers attempted to disarm the suspect, but the armed suspect violently resisted,” DHS said. “Fearing for his life and the lives and safety of fellow officers, an agent fired defensive shots. Medics on scene immediately delivered medical aid to the subject, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.”

Officials confirmed the suspect had no identification on him and carried two full magazines. DHS sources say the situation suggests a possible attempt to carry out a mass-casualty assault on law enforcement.

Shortly after the shooting, roughly 200 agitators descended on the scene. DHS described the crowd as hostile, with several individuals physically obstructing and assaulting officers. Federal agents deployed crowd control measures to restore order and ensure the safety of the public and law enforcement.

“This situation is evolving, and more information is forthcoming,” DHS said.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz quickly condemned the shooting, posting online that he had contacted the White House to demand an end to the operation.

“Minnesota has had it. This is sickening,” Walz wrote. “The President must end this operation. Pull the thousands of violent, untrained officers out of Minnesota. Now.”

He insisted that state officials take over the investigation and claimed Minnesota has the resources to keep the public safe without federal involvement.

The shooting took place amid ongoing federal enforcement activity under DHS’s Operation Metro Surge, which began late last year. So far, over 3,000 individuals have been arrested, including numerous illegal immigrants with violent criminal records.

“Just yesterday, they arrested pedophiles, sexual predators, and drug traffickers in Minnesota,” said Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin in a Friday statement.

“Many of these public safety threats were released from Minnesota jails. We are calling on Governor Walz and Mayor Frey to honor the more than 1,360 detainers of the illegal aliens in Minnesota jails,” she added.

Despite public backlash, protests, and violent anti-ICE demonstrations in the wake of previous enforcement actions, federal agents remain deployed across the Twin Cities area. Last week, Renee Good was shot and killed after reportedly attempting to ram an ICE officer with her vehicle, injuring the agent internally.

Federal officials continue to emphasize the danger posed by criminal aliens released onto the streets and the need for state cooperation.
