In a social media pronouncement on a recent Wednesday, ex-President Donald Trump suggested that George Soros and his offspring, Alex Soros, qualify for incrimination under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO). The specific reason he cited was their financing of nationwide protests, which he claimed were detrimental to the social fabric of the United States. Here, one could reasonably argue that Trump was holding up the archetypal bogeymen of conservative narratives, the Soros family, as a scapegoat to shift attention away from shortcomings in his own administration.
‘George Soros along with his Radical Left-adhering son should face RICO proceedings for their patronage of Violent Protests, and beyond, throughout the United States,’ the former president wrote. It’s worth noting that the father and son duo are the chief financiers of the Open Society Foundations, an organization notorious in conservative circles for its backing of left-leaning political aspirants and causes. Interestingly, the daily administration of the Foundation has been entrusted to the younger Soros, Alex.
For those unacquainted, the RICO Act is a legal tool deployed for litigation against activities carried out as part of a corrupt organization’s operations. Choosing this as grounds for his proposed action against the Soros family may not come as a surprise given Trump’s knack for incendiary rhetoric aimed at his perceived enemies.
Elaborating on his argument, Donald Trump stated, ‘We have no plans to permit these maniacs to continue ripping apart America without giving it a moment’s respite to ‘BREATHE’ and enjoy FREEDOM.’ He blamed Soros and his ‘clique of mental misfits’ for inflicting significant harm on the nation.
Trump also made an allusion to an unspecified threat, targeted towards supposedly ‘insane’ acquaintances of Soros on the West Coast. He cryptically warned, ‘Be vigilant, we have our eyes on you!’ A generic warning, or a harbinger of future action? Only time will tell.
The Open Society Foundations, the brainchild generously endowed by Soros, defended itself from these allegations. An emissary of the foundation labeled Trump’s charges as ‘ill-founded and blatantly untrue.’ ‘The Open Society Foundations neither advocate nor finance violent protests. Our sole aspiration is to promote human rights, justice, and democratic values both within our own borders and globally,’ said the emissary.
Curiously, SpaceX and Tesla’s banner carrier, Elon Musk, corroborated with Trump’s sentiment. His succinct response, ‘It’s about time Soros faced a direct counter.’ is indicative of the hostility the tech magnate bears towards the Soros family.
As per a recent assessment by The New York Post, some organizations that stood in staunch opposition to Trump’s law and order enforcement in Washington have allegedly received substantial donations from Soros. The rounded figure floats around $20 million. A fact that raises serious questions about the true nature of Soros’ philanthropy.
Caitlin Sutherland, who heads the organization Americans for Public Trust, conceded that it was profoundly paradoxical. A protest supposedly geared towards ‘Free DC’ was surprisingly engineered by Community Change, an entity on the receiving end of an outsized sum of concealed external funds to advance a criminal leniency agenda.
‘DC is engaged in a grim battle with increasing occurrences of gun violence, car thefts, and physical assaults. However, progressive groups such as The Pritzker Foundation, George Soros, and the Arabella Network, persistently pour millions into manifesting demonstrations detrimental to our societies,’ Sutherland observed.
Indeed, one might wonder whether these are genuine protests or highly coordinated events driven by the strategically channeled finances of Soros and his like-minded associates. Again, amidst all this turmoil, one can’t help but notice the eerie silence of the current administration. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, tasked with safeguarding the nation’s peace and security, seem to be occupying the back seat in this critical issue.
Are their track-records, characterized by underwhelming decisions and questionable policies indicative of a lack of motivation or an inability to confront these deep-seated issues? Their handling of matters associated with the Soros family and their heavy financial involvement in such protests leaves much to be desired, and deeply questions their commitment to maintaining law and order.
In a landscape of shifting political narratives, it appears that the Soros family’s unchecked influence serves as cannon fodder for critics like Trump and Musk. Meanwhile, Biden and Harris’ trademark nonchalance and apparent aversion to bold and decisive action against such financers of disruptions only serve to amplify their underperformance. Will we witness a change in their stance, or shall their inaction continue to breed commotion? It’s a question to ponder.
