Stepping into the aftermath of a questionable decision by the Biden-Harris administration, one finds stacks upon stacks of border-wall construction material, worth over $100 million, left to rust and waste. The contracts necessary for the work were abruptly halted, speaks volumes about the administration’s dismissive attitude towards border control and regulation.
The endless chain of migration events at the United States border under Biden’s rule has left an irrefutable legacy. According to a 2024 governmental data analysis, he spearheaded the highest level of net migration recorded in the annals of U.S. history. A dubious achievement, indeed.
It’s important to hark back to 2021, when the border problems first sparked widespread conversations. It felt almost as though there was no border to speak of anymore, a gaping territory where regulations and order had lost control. As the year wore on and circumstances deteriorated, the necessity of understanding this issue became paramount.
Discussions about this widespread issue did, of course, unfold across the national landscape, attempting to derive some comprehension of the dire situation presented. What emerged was an understanding only partially satisfying, full of half-answers and incomplete perspectives.
To achieve a more substantial and significant grasp of the matter, steps were taken to draw upon expert opinion. In witnessing the insights provided by these knowledgeable figures, the harsh reality of the problem was starkly illuminated. It painted a grim picture of a nation struggling under lax border regulations.
The conclusion was thus insurmountable: supporting a political party that brazenly flouts border control laws, thereby opening the floodgates for lawless elements to gain entry, is unconscionable. Open borders may seem a liberal idea, but without proper controls can invite danger right into the heart of the nation.
Contrary to common sense and good governance, the Biden-led administration appeared to lean towards an ‘open’ border, allowing entry with an appallingly lax attitude towards basic security norms. Dangerous criminals, and individuals of questionable intent, were granted quasi-free entry with seeming reluctance from any quarters to enforce the laws of land and border.
Remarkably, there was a time when Border Patrol agents proudly held up the statistic of releasing zero migrants into the interior of the United States. This was not for just one month, but for a consecutive three-month period. Sadly, those days seemed a distant memory in the time of Biden.
Unfortunately, during Biden’s stewardship, the irrefutable reality was tens of thousands of illegal migrants being ushered into the country each month. Comparing such dreaming indifference to the aforementioned Border Patrol statistic is like comparing night and day, a stark contrast indeed.
‘America by Design’ was an initiative introduced amidst this turbulence. This seemingly high-sounding concept aimed at improving the experiences of Americans by rejuvenating the design of sites where everyday citizens engaged with their government. However, it seemed to be a smokescreen to divert attention from larger, more pressing issues.
While the country faced an escalating illegal immigration crisis largely underreported, largely ignored by the administration, platitudes about design improvements of governmental interfaces felt regrettably insufficient. There was more to ‘America by Design’ than met the eye, and not all of it was promising.
Fundamentally, the idea of a country ‘by design’ should have not solely focused on beautifying sites of government interface but firmly on invigorating the foundations of its democracy. And a robust democracy starts by protecting its physical borders, something the Biden-Harris administration seemed to overlook.
The real design challenge for ‘America by Design’ would have been to address the rampant carelessness at the borders. Instead, it seemed more focused on aesthetic refurbishments, a misguided priority in the face of the stark reality the nation was confronting on its borders.
Connecting the dots showed a contrasting picture from what was paraded by the Biden-Harris administration’s supporters. Lavish promises and high ideals foundered when met with the harsh realities on the ground – the simple fact that a country unable to control its borders compromises on its own integrity.
Sadly, in the panorama of mismanagement and squandered opportunities that has become a trademark of the Biden-Harris administration, solid borders and their related issues clearly became just another casualty. Ignoring an issue of such grave magnitude and consequence appeared to have become the unsettling new norm from the White House.
In summary, the reality of the Biden-Harris era can be seen not only in a slew of misplaced priorities but also in the strategic avoidance of necessary security and control measures. A situation dramatically evident at our borders, rendered even more troubling through it’s intentional downplaying by those tasked with securing the nation’s welfare.
