This upcoming November presents a crucial moment for the constituents of Binghamton, as the mayoral race will be a contested one. The current mayor, Jared Kraham of the Republican Party, is pitted against Democratic nominee Miles Burnett. Kraham secured the mayoral spot in 2021, following a seven-year stint as the deputy mayor under the leadership of then-mayor Richard David. Meanwhile, Burnett entered the political scene as deputy chief of staff for State Senator Lea Webb and further supported Council Member Andrew Cohen of New York City as his aide.
Both Kraham and Burnett, having roots in Binghamton, are advancing their election campaigns with a focus on two main pillars – public safety and housing issues. The residents of Binghamton will cast their ballots on Tuesday, the 4th of November. Additionally, early voters in Broome County will get a head start from Saturday, the 25th of October. Jared Kraham is rallying for another term in office in the 2025 mayoral reelection.
Kraham is enthusiastic about the prospect of persevering with the initiatives he commenced during his initial years of service. If favoured with a second term, Kraham has pledged to offer stability and amplify the progress made during his initial tenure as mayor. His campaign puts a spotlight on, and is primarily driven by, two key issues: public safety and the quality of housing.
In terms of public safety, Kraham’s strategy underscores the support for first responders, enhancing staff strength, and capitalizing on cutting-edge technologies to mitigate criminal activity. To ameliorate housing conditions, Kraham envisages the minimization of bureaucratic hurdles. This move is to promote Binghamton as a favourable choice for investors eyeing new housing projects.
On the other hand, Democratic candidate Miles Burnett has also submitted his candidacy for the position of Binghamton’s mayor this 2025. Housing rights and livelihood quality form the crux of his campaign. He recommends an overhaul of the city’s blue bag system as a solution to mitigate the prevailing housing deficit in the city.
Moreover, Burnett emphasizes the necessity of offering residents, particularly those in need, access to high-standard mental health facilities. He also advocates for the creation of more avenues of opportunity for the city’s younger demographic, in line with improving the city’s overall quality of life.
