Border Czar Tom Homan has announced a sweeping escalation in immigration enforcement, declaring that the Trump administration will triple the number of federal immigration officers deployed to sanctuary cities across the country. The move is part of a larger crackdown aimed at dismantling the dangerous protections these jurisdictions offer to criminal illegal aliens.
“Game’s over,” Homan said. “We’re going after public safety threats, and we’re taking them off the streets — with or without local cooperation.”
The plan directly targets cities that refuse to work with federal immigration authorities. Homan made it clear that if ICE officers are blocked from making arrests in local jails due to sanctuary policies, they’ll go straight into communities, neighborhoods, and workplaces to apprehend those who should have been turned over to federal custody.
The announcement follows a recent high-profile incident in New York City, where members of the violent gang “Los Diablos de 42” — linked to Venezuela’s Tren de Aragua cartel — allegedly assaulted NYPD officers. Despite the severity of the attack, the NYPD’s refusal to participate in civil immigration enforcement left federal agents on their own. Homan didn’t mince words, calling out sanctuary policies for enabling violent criminals and endangering law enforcement officers.
In addition to tripling ICE’s presence, Homan warned that individuals who defy final deportation orders — by obstructing removal or refusing to comply — will face criminal prosecution under federal law. Specifically, they can be charged under Title 8, U.S. Code 1253, for willfully delaying or avoiding their own removal from the United States.
This aggressive move is part of President Trump’s broader mission to restore law and order, eliminate sanctuary loopholes, and protect American communities from repeat offenders shielded by left-wing local governments. The administration has made it clear: sanctuary policies are over.
While critics on the Left continue to cry foul, supporters argue this is exactly the kind of strong leadership the country needs. Trump’s America First immigration agenda is back in full force — and sanctuary cities are now on notice.
