In a court case involving Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, Dawn Richard has emerged as the fourth individual delivering her testimony. The year 2024 saw Richard filing legal charges against the renowned music icon, claiming he was the perpetrator of verbal and sexual maltreatment towards her. She avers Combs once physically assaulted his erstwhile girlfriend Casandra ‘Cassie’ Ventura using a frying pan full of eggs, and in a separate incident, he allegedly struck her in the abdomen. Dawn Richard, a known member of Danity Kane, who has leveled accusations of sexual misconduct against Combs, asserts that she was a direct witness to the said abuse against Ventura, with numerous celebrities, Usher being one, also being in the vicinity.
Richard’s court appearance took place on the 16th of May, which was a Friday, and again on the subsequent Monday, sharing her allegations about a particular assault incident that occurred in a restaurant back in 2010. The episode, she alleged, unfolded in a room within the restaurant where the couple was caught in a hushed dispute that soon turned physical with Combs reportedly punching Ventura in the stomach. ‘She instantly hunched over and was told by Combs to leave the place,’ Richard narrated during her testimony, also noting that no one stepped in to intervene.
According to Richard, there were other well-known figures present during this event, such as Usher, Ne-Yo, Jimmy Iovine, and other unnamed celebrities she couldn’t specifically remember while on the witness stand. Following the events at the restaurant, Richard found herself sharing a car ride with Combs and Ventura. It was during this time, Ventura expressed her sentiments of humiliation and reprimanded Combs for his unseemly behavior in public.
‘He clutched her throat and slapped her across the mouth,’ Dawn Richard revealed further during her testimony. Combs, she alleged, then proceeded to silence Ventura with explicit language. ‘Combs would assert dominance over Ventura, claiming ownership,’ Richard continued. Richard recollects advising Ventura to leave, noticing the inner conflict within her. ‘She gave heed to my words, but her fear was palpable,’ Richard noted.
Richard also recollects another episode which predates the restaurant incident, a year back in 2009 when she reportedly witnessed Combs allegedly assaulting Ventura using a skillet filled with eggs. Upon witnessing this incident, Richard alleged that Combs threatened her. ‘He sinisterly claimed we could disappear, or even worse, face death,’ she informed the jurors. This statement left Richard petrified and incredulous, ‘I was pole-axed, but also terrified. I couldn’t fathom that this was the beginning of what lay ahead for us,’ she stated.
Combs’s trial embarked on its second week on the preceding Monday, marking almost a week since Ventura commenced her testimony. The grilled charges against Combs range from racketeering, forcing sex trafficking, to transportation for solicitation of prostitution. A plea of not guilty has been entered by Combs in response to these allegations.
