Democrat John Stamos Defends Himself After Attending Event At Mar-a-Lago: ‘Not Political’

Actor John Stamos is pushing back against backlash he’s received for attending a charity gala hosted at President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate, saying his involvement was strictly about supporting nurses—not politics.

Stamos served as the emcee of the Ray of Hope Gala, a fundraising event that benefits The Academy for Nursing and Health Occupations (AHNO), a nonprofit that helps train desperately needed nurses in Palm Beach County. The event, which honored frontline healthcare workers, was held at Mar-a-Lago—prompting a flurry of outrage from left-wing social media users and critics in the entertainment industry.

But Stamos is making it clear: his presence had nothing to do with politics and everything to do with supporting those who take care of others.

“I did this event to support nurses,” Stamos said in a statement. “That’s it. Supporting nurses isn’t political—it’s essential.”

Stamos reiterated that his political views have not changed, and he encouraged others to contribute to AHNO’s mission. “If anyone is mad at me for helping raise money to train and support healthcare workers, maybe they need to re-examine their priorities,” he added.

Update: John Stamos uses cause of supporting nurses to defend emceeing a “non-partisan event” at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago property:

Despite the actor’s nonpartisan intent, some in the media and on social platforms attempted to frame his appearance as a political endorsement simply because of the venue. Others, however, defended him, noting that the outrage says more about the hyper-politicized culture than about Stamos’s character.

Supporters pointed out that Stamos has long been involved in community service and public advocacy, including his work in support of law enforcement and through his wife’s nonprofit, Civic Soul, which promotes civic engagement.

The incident underscores the impossible standards public figures are held to when any appearance, donation, or event—even for a good cause—can be twisted for political gain. Stamos’s decision to stand firm, rather than apologize or backpedal, is being praised by many for cutting through the noise and focusing on what really matters.

In the end, John Stamos wasn’t making a political statement—he was doing what he’s always done: using his platform to help others. And for millions of Americans who support both our healthcare workers and the right to host an event wherever they choose, that’s exactly the kind of Hollywood we need more of.
