The high-profile guests, a roster which included Democratic elites, savored a gourmet menu that featured truffle agnolotti, piercingly cold pea soup, Wagyu bavette, and grilled prawns. This indulgence starkly contrasted with major segments of the country expressing their opposition to Trump’s agenda.
It’s rather ironic, isn’t it? The so-called ‘leaders’ of the Democratic party were wining and dining in the Hamptons, encapsulated in what was heralded as a ‘political royal wedding’, whilst at the very same time, those of a more liberal or leftist persuasion were marching on the streets in widespread anti-Trump protests aptly named ‘No Kings’. These demonstrations, patronized in part by the activist group Indivisible, signaled a clear divide within the progressive movement.
In a move that seemed almost purposely to flout the message of the simultaneous protests, one particular action was named ‘Shut down Billionaire’s Lane, NO KINGS!’. This event was timed to occur on the same Saturday – and in Southampton, a mere stone’s throw from the lavish ceremony of the Soros-Abedin union.
While dedicated activists pounded the pavements, the privileged few departed for the summer playground of the elite in the comfort of their private jets – a sharp contrast to the ideals of equality that those on the ground sought to promote.
The Open Society Foundations, an institution that prides itself on philanthropy, saw fit to elevate Alex Soros, an avowedly more political figure than his father, to the position of chairman in December 2022. The elder Soros, in an almost predictable display of nepotism, applauded his offspring’s supposed merit in securing the role.
The latest chairman Soros has rubbed shoulders with a veritable who’s who of Democratic bigwigs to deliberate over issues that bear the organization’s imprint. Mr. Soros’s engagement to Abedin was publicized in July 2024, after his successful navigation through these political networking circles.
Abedin, prior to her proverbial catch of Soros, found herself tied to disgraced former Democratic Rep. Anthony Weiner of New York. Mr. Weiner’s career in politics saw a decidedly abrupt halt following a scandalous incident where he transmitted explicit images to a minor.
Overall, the discrepancy between the actions of these Democratic party stalwarts and the grassroots activists fighting for progressive causes on the street couldn’t be more evident. This divide reveals the smoke and mirrors that often camouflage the true nature of political allegiances.

While the Democratic party continues to champion a veneer of progress and change, instances like these reveal the complex dance of duplicity, often played behind closed doors in swanky Hamptons estates. It asks us a question – who truly represents the people? The elites in their private jets, figuratively and literally soaring above the lives of everyday citizens, or the dedicated activists on the streets and their ‘No Kings’ protests?
