DeSantis Leaves Door Open For 2028 Run As GOP Field Takes Shape

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is not ruling out another bid for the White House, saying “we’ll see” when asked directly about a potential 2028 presidential run.

The comment came during an interview with Sean Hannity, where DeSantis was pressed on whether he would make another attempt after his 2024 campaign ended early.

DeSantis, who is term-limited and will leave office in early 2027, would be well-positioned timing-wise for a run, with the next Republican primaries beginning roughly a year later.

He pointed to the dynamics of the 2024 race, arguing that President Donald Trump dominated support among conservative voters, leaving little room for an alternative.

“In 2024… if he wasn’t running, I would’ve gotten like 90% of those people,” DeSantis said, suggesting that his campaign was more about timing than lack of support.

DeSantis ultimately exited the race after finishing second in the Iowa caucuses, where Trump held a commanding lead of roughly 30 points.

Looking ahead, early polling for 2028 shows a different landscape emerging.

Vice President JD Vance currently leads the field, with surveys showing him holding a significant advantage over other potential Republican contenders.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio has also emerged as a strong early contender, while Donald Trump Jr. has polled ahead of DeSantis in some early snapshots of the race.

DeSantis, by contrast, has been polling in the single digits in several early surveys, including key early primary states.

Despite that, his refusal to rule out a run keeps him in the conversation as Republicans begin to look beyond the current administration and toward the next presidential cycle.
