New details have emerged from a tense closed-door meeting between Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and Trump White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles over the Department of Justice’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files.
According to multiple reports, Bongino confronted Bondi over what he sees as a mishandling of the case, specifically Bondi’s public comments suggesting she had Epstein’s alleged client list “sitting” on her desk. The Department of Justice recently announced it found no evidence Epstein maintained a client list, engaged in blackmail, or was murdered.
Sources told Fox News that Bongino raised his voice during the meeting and ultimately stormed out after what was described as a “heated exchange” with Bondi. Some close to Bongino say he was “enraged,” while others pushed back on the idea that he yelled directly at Bondi or Wiles. A White House official also denied that Bongino directed anger toward Wiles.
This latest clash follows days of speculation that Bongino may resign over Bondi’s handling of the Epstein case. According to a source close to the deputy director, Bongino has issued a quiet ultimatum: he won’t continue serving if Bondi remains in her role.
The controversy was reignited after Bondi attempted to clarify her past statements during a Cabinet meeting earlier this week. “In February, I did an interview on Fox, and it’s been getting a lot of attention because I was asked a question about the ‘client list’ and my response was, ‘It’s sitting on my desk to be reviewed,’ meaning the file, along with the JFK and MLK files as well,” she said.
Bondi also tried to explain away missing footage from the Bureau of Prisons video archive tied to Epstein’s cell. “We learned from the Bureau of Prisons that every night they redo that video,” she claimed. “So, every night the video is reset, and every night should have the same minute missing.”
Despite mounting backlash, Bondi has made it clear through her allies that she has no plans to resign. And the White House appears to be siding with her for now.
“President Trump has assembled a highly qualified and experienced law and order team dedicated to protecting Americans, holding criminals accountable, and delivering justice to victims,” said White House Deputy Press Secretary Harrison Fields. “Any attempt to sow division within this team is baseless and distracts from the real progress being made in restoring public safety and pursuing justice for all.”
The internal friction, however, shows no signs of cooling as questions about the Epstein investigation — and whether powerful figures are being shielded — continue to spark public outrage and growing scrutiny from within Trump’s own law enforcement leadership.
