Major media networks tend to follow a familiar blueprint when covering leftist demonstrations. Liberal marches typically impose damage and disorder on democrat-leaning metropolitan areas, only to be followed by TV news presenters educating audiences that the disturbances causing upheaval originated from peaceful gatherings.
There’s a recurring theme when it comes to these progressive protests that eventually turn unruly. For instance, the protests witnessed recently in Los Angeles began as an orderly expression of dissent in the day, only to spiral into anarchy when dusk fell. This is when unidentified instigators hijack the cause, resorting to violent means involving flames, stones and brute force to wreak havoc and instill fear.
Do such chaotic events disturb the political leadership? Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and California Governor Gavin Newsom’s reactions might lead you to believe otherwise. Their outrage seems aimed toward President Donald Trump, rather than those causing chaos on their watch.
According to the duo, Trump is the root cause of the destructive violence seen during left-wing agitations, especially those opposing the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) actions. Newsom alleged that their region faced no issues until the moment Trump intervened.
Mayor Bass echoed these sentiments, placing blame squarely on ICE’s actions. ‘If there had been no immigration raids here, the unrest we saw last night wouldn’t have taken place,’ she retorted. Is this what unrest means to them? For them, law enforcement equates to chaos.
Their concept of unrest, it seems, doesn’t include acts such as protesters stone-throwing at ICE vehicles and National Guardsmen, setting autonomous cars and the national flag ablaze, or public roadways being rendered inaccessible.
Analyzing this situation, political consultant Sean Walsh, a former Deputy Chief of Staff to ex-California Governor Pete Wilson, said, ‘The biker waving the Mexican flag isn’t doing any favors to the image of those opposing ICE.’
Walsh took us back to the protest against Proposition 187 in 1994, a policy to withhold welfare benefits from illegal immigrants, which ironically helped the proposition receive an overwhelming majority. He mentions how despite the visible contradiction, every foreign flag they swirl is protected as an expression of their alignment, even if it undermines their quest for inclusivity.
What comes across clearly is the California Democrats’ belief that Trump shouldn’t implement immigration law. Their logic posits that immigrants who’ve successfully evaded federal immigration laws for years have earned a right to stay.
The Democratic leaders in the Golden State believe that taking a stand in favor of immigrants who have contravened American laws is a winning strategy. A recent story in the Los Angeles Times underscores the inconsistent nature of this viewpoint in the mainstream narrative.
As per the report, a man named Martir Garcia-Benegas and his son, after landing in the US in July 2021, were ordered to be deported in September 2022. When the father appealed, the appeal was dismissed in August 2023.
However, despite the court’s orders, neither of them left the country. The ICE spokesperson confirmed that the duo was taken into custody in May, with deportation to Honduras in the pipeline.
The media’s skewed perspective treats enforcement of federal immigration law as breaking news. Yet, when the ICE apprehends serious offenders, such as murderers and sex criminals, the coverage is markedly scant. It’s such narratives that likely contributed to Trump’s success last November.
