Recently, Dominik Mysterio had sharp words in response to a jibe from CM Punk, addressing what the latter cited as the ‘demise of the business’. Observations from CM Punk throughout his promotional circuit pertained to Dominik Mysterio and his contention that WWE’s attempt to convince fans that ‘a nerd’ like Dominik could possibly win over a ‘Greek goddess’ such as Rhea Ripley is a major detriment to the business. Punk also added an insult by labeling Dominik as ‘a little bitch’ to conclude his thoughts.
In response, Mysterio turned attention to Punk’s unsuccessful stint in the UFC. It was suggested that Punk should perhaps refer to Mickey Gall, the inaugural opponent Punk faced, to seek an incontrovertible conclusion. According to Mysterio, ‘The business suffers more when someone falsely believes they are fit to participate in the UFC, only to end up being twice defeated.’
Mysterio challenged Punk to revisit his own UFC performances and thereafter judge what constitutes damaging to the business more than anything else. Continuing his counterattack, Mysterio quipped, ‘Perhaps I should give my friend Mickey Gall a call and solicit his view.’ This was reiterating the fact that Punk was defeated by Mickey Gall in his first UFC match.
So, why have CM Punk and Dominik Mysterio been at each other’s throats? Over the course of the past year, this back-and-forth between Punk and Mysterio has delivered untold amusement. Punk’s birthday-punctuated dig at Dominik sparked fury from the latter, prompting him to retaliate by referring to Punk as an ‘old washed-up has-been.’
Adding more salt to the wound, Punk insinuated surprise at the absence of toilet paper being hurled towards Dom given his subpar performance, or in Punk’s words – ‘because he’s the shits.’ Recently, Punk went on to mockingly share the ‘best advice’ bestowed upon him by Dominik, contributing further to their heated exchanges.
Yet, this animosity has a long history. Dominik traces his disdain for CM Punk back to when he was just 12 years old, claiming it’s rooted in Punk’s torment of him during his inaugural visits to the WWE. This was during the narrative arc involving Punk and Dominik’s father, wrestling legend Rey Mysterio.
This back and forth between Mysterio and Punk, filled with jabs and stinging retorts, has pushed their feud further into the limelight. However, with both men determined to prove their respective points, it remains to be seen where this rivalry will lead. As the situation stands, each of their exchanges has resulted in a media frenzy.
While no physical confrontations have taken place thus far, their verbal altercations are paving the way for something potentially larger on the horizon. With the passing of each day, their feud intensifies and fans eagerly wait for the next fiery response.
