Elon Musk Enters Restaurant Business with a Tesla-Themed Eatery

Elon Musk, known for his prowess in the tech industry and currently the CEO of Tesla, has identified a new realm in which he wants to make his mark: the restaurant industry. In a surprising turn of events, Musk, notorious for his sensitivity towards criticism directed towards his widely recognized car brand, has resurrected earlier plans to launch a Tesla-themed eatery in Los Angeles. This intriguing development has been noted by numerous sources. An investor of Tesla has mentioned that the team aspires to bring to life a vintage Hollywood-style diner replete with glimmering neon lights and the irresistible aroma of grilled burgers complementing hand-spun milkshakes.

The plans don’t stop there, they aim for a unique entertainment experience as well. The proposed Tesla diner also envisions an outdoor cinema concept featuring dual towering 45 feet LED screens and amply equipped with 75 plus V4 Supercharger stalls. The gastronomic expertise at the diner will be led by the talented Eric Greenspan, a celebrated chef based in Los Angeles who has also marked his culinary flair on ‘Iron Chef America’ and an array of television shows hosted by renowned chef Guy Fieri.

Reputable sources like The New York Times have reported that besides Eric Greenspan, the formal corporate paperwork of the diner also includes the name of William Chait as the company manager. Chait’s name pops up quite prominently in the world of food and beverage, with The San Francisco Chronicle highlighting his past role as the managing associate of Sprout LA, a widely influential restaurant consortium. He had also been associated with Tartine, a famed San Franciso-based bakery until recently.

News of the Tesla-themed diner had initially trickled out back in 2018, courtesy of a tweet by Elon Musk, where he expressed his intention to inaugurate a retro influenced diner and drive-in theatre set-up at one of the future Tesla Supercharger locations in Los Angeles. Construction of the establishment, located at what was previously a Shakey’s Pizza on Santa Monica Boulevard close to La Brea Avenue, kicked off approximately a year before as per the updates from Mona Holmes at Eater LA.

However, the diner is yet to declare its formal opening date to the public. In other Tesla news, Elon made another announcement on Friday that he has procured ownership over a social media platform, raising eyebrows by transferring the ownership to himself. More precisely, the transaction encompassed the transfer of the social media business to xAI, Musk’s own AI development company, with an equivalent value of $33 billion finalized in an all-stock deal.

While on face value this seems like a win, it comes with its fair share of challenges. This industry, often noted for its slim profit margins, is fraught with hurdles and criticism from multiple quarters. It isn’t uncommon for such criticism to intensify when the narrative shifts to the political environment. Some observers have conjectured that Musk’s acquisition of the mentioned social media platform was an preemptive move to neutralize his critics.

However, it doesn’t require any conjecture to understand the Tesla CEO’s stance towards those who critique the auto giant. Musk, who often expresses himself as a proponent of free speech, had some choice words for the detractors. In a conversation with a news reporter, he had strong opinions about those opposing Tesla: ‘It seems like they’re consuming propaganda disseminated by the extreme left and they have started believing it.’

The billionaire went on to warn, ‘As for the individuals who’re stirring up this propaganda, we’ll deal with them,’. He further stated, ‘There’s a presence of harmful entities out there that we need to vanquish.’ As for how exactly Musk plans to tackle the criticism levied against Tesla remains a mystery, particularly considering the fact that numerous protests are lined up at Tesla dealerships in the approaching weekend.

Silencing those with more critical or incisive views towards his new restaurant venture could prove a challenging task even for someone like Musk. The Tesla founder’s take-no-prisoners attitude toward what he sees as disingenuous criticism of his ventures has made headlines before, and it remains to be seen how he would handle any negative reviews or backlash against his new establishment.
