A resident of Montgomery was handed down his sentencing verdict on Thursday for the serious offense of firearm possession by a convicted felon, as detailed by the interim U.S. Attorney Kevin Davidson. Earlier in April, Calvin Craig Griffin, a 22-year-old man, entered a guilty plea towards the charges and was consequently condemned to serve a six-year term in federal incarceration.
The series of events that led to this outcome began on the 28th of August, 2024, in the vicinity of Eastern Boulevard and Carmichael Road, Montgomery. As per the information gleaned from court records, during a routine patrol operation, local law enforcement officers observed an individual making his way into a hotel room, seemingly carrying what could be identified as an AR-style semi-automatic firearm.
Upon receiving a tip-off from the management of the hotel, the officers were informed of possible unlawful activities taking place within the premises of the said room. The hotel administration had grown suspicious of the occupants and expressed their desire to have them evicted, hence requested the law enforcement’s assistance.
In response to this request, the police officers took immediate action and ventured into the hotel room. The individual who had earlier been observed with the potential firearm, was recognized as Griffin once the officers were in the room.
After conducting a thorough search, federal officials reported that they had discovered an AR-style semiautomatic pistol equipped with an enlarged magazine and loaded with as many as 63 rounds of ammunition. The suspected firearm turned out to be the real deal, as per the officers’ initial suspicions.
Given his prior felony convictions, the federal legality strictly prohibits Griffin from any possession or usage of firearms or even ammunition. His previous encounters with the law proved to be a decisive factor as it directly contradicted with this law.
