Authorities have reported that Shane Tamura, a former high school football star, took his own life after orchestrating a shooting spree that impacted five individuals in a Manhattan office block, a building which hosts the NFL offices. Out of the five victims, one managed to survive the violent ordeal. Notably, Tamura had once demonstrated his talent on the football field, and his game had tragically ended the lives of a New York City law enforcement officer and three other individuals.
In a curious development, Tamura, at the time of his death, had a letter in his possession. This handwritten note, a confidential source from the New York Police Department has disclosed, suggested he was fearful of being afflicted by a neurological condition associated with football. The note, unfolding over three pages, was an expression of remorse, and it hinted at Tamura’s latent wish for his brain to be put under the microscope for traces of chronic traumatic encephalopathy, commonly known as CTE.
After shooting five individuals in a Manhattan office skyscraper, notoriously home to the NFL official headquarters, Tamura is reported to have turned the gun on himself, inflicting a fatal wound to his chest. The NFL has corroborated that one amongst the victims was employed by the association.
Even as the investigations strive to uncover the shooter’s underlying motivations, a coach who was well-acquainted with Tamura during his high school football career stated that he was an exceptional player. Walter Roby, who was serving as a football coach at Granada Hills Charter High School in California at the time Tamura held the position of a running back, described him.
Roby spoke of Tamura as a standout among their ranks. He was not only naturally talented, but he was also highly disciplined. He exuded a quiet, unassertive bearing, and there was a humble core to him.
Roby marked Tamura as a player who was obedient and pliable, a trait that made him easy to coach. If asked to execute a task, the response would always be affirmative. He was reportedly never the source of trouble or disagreements.
Shaken at the revelation of the violence that drowned their former star player, Roby speaks of sinking into bed, besieged by shock. The shock clung to him all night, and even upon waking, he found himself still enveloped in it.
It’s a known fact that numerous previous NFL players have been posthumously diagnosed with CTE. Investigations have proposed a link between the disease and recurrent blows to the head. Further research has also spotted a possible connection between the ailment and other high-contact sports, alongside military service.
As per reports unearthed by Scripps News, in the year 2023, Tamura had had a dust-up with the law enforcement officers of the Las Vegas Metropolitan police department following a controversy at an entertainment complex.
A document from the court reveals that Tamura, when attempting to claim a hefty sum of winnings, had refused to show his identification. However, he proved equally obstinate in not exiting the establishment without receiving his dues.
Court documentation implies that the case was eventually dismissed, with the district attorney deciding to circumvent pressing charges.
