In a rare moment of honesty from within the Democratic Party, Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania publicly broke ranks to praise former President Donald Trump’s Middle East policies—particularly his decision to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal and move the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem.
Speaking at a bipartisan event alongside Republican Senator Dave McCormick, Fetterman declared, “Trump did the right thing to break that agreement,” referring to the Obama-era nuclear pact with Iran that Trump famously tore up. Fetterman’s remarks stunned many in the room, as he openly acknowledged what most Democrats won’t admit: Trump’s approach to the Middle East was bold, decisive, and effective.
Fetterman also turned his criticism inward, taking aim at his own party’s increasing hostility toward Israel. “Pro-Israel Democrats,” he warned, “have lost the argument in parts of my party.” His comments come as the Democrat base shifts further left—fueled by progressive activists who have become increasingly sympathetic to anti-Israel rhetoric and open hostility toward America’s traditional allies.
In a fiery defense of Israel, Fetterman called out the surge in antisemitic incidents across college campuses, stating that hatred of Jews is “rampant” and can no longer be excused as free speech. He urged his fellow Democrats to stop tolerating bigotry masquerading as activism, and to stand firmly against antisemitism, regardless of the political cost.
While many in his party remain silent—or worse, complicit—Fetterman’s statements cut through the noise. His comments represent a growing unease among moderate Democrats who are watching their party cave to the far-left, even on issues of national security and basic morality.
Fetterman’s willingness to break from the party line and give credit where it’s due is increasingly rare in Washington. And in doing so, he reminded the country that supporting a strong, pro-American foreign policy shouldn’t be partisan—it should be the bare minimum. Whether his fellow Democrats will listen is another matter entirely.
