A former mixed martial artist has been sentenced to four years in prison after a violent, jealousy-driven assault in a London apartment, an incident that was interrupted when Barron Trump alerted emergency services.
Matvei Rumiantsev, 22, the son of a wealthy Russian businessman, was sentenced at Snaresbrook Crown Court following what prosecutors described as an hour-long attack that left the victim fearing for her life.
According to court testimony, the violence began after Rumiantsev became enraged over the victim’s friendship with Barron Trump. The situation escalated when he answered a FaceTime call from Barron on the woman’s phone.
During that call, Rumiantsev allegedly showed Barron the victim before grabbing her by the hair, throwing her to the ground, and kicking her while hurling insults, prosecutors said.
Barron Trump, who was in Florida at the time, quickly realized the severity of the situation and attempted to contact British emergency services. In a recorded 999 call presented in court, he told operators that a woman was being attacked and urgently needed help.
The victim later credited Barron with helping save her life, saying the call came at a critical moment during the assault.
In sentencing, the judge described Rumiantsev as driven by jealousy and lacking remorse. The court noted that he continued to blame the victim and showed little empathy throughout the proceedings.
Rumiantsev was convicted of actual bodily harm and perverting the course of justice, with the latter tied to attempts to pressure the victim to withdraw her statement after his arrest.
While he was cleared of more serious charges, including rape and strangulation, the judge emphasized the severity and duration of the attack.
Following his prison term, Rumiantsev may face deportation from the United Kingdom, adding further consequences to the case.
