Gregory Daniels Unveils ‘The Paper’: A Spinoff of ‘The Office’

Emerging from the creative mind of Gregory Daniels comes a brand new sitcom, ‘The Paper’. A direct off-shoot from ‘The Office’, this new show introduces an entirely fresh ensemble of comical and lovable personalities.

The narrative revolves around seven resolute and gritty journalists on a relentless quest for authentic news. That’s according to Ned Sampson, portrayed by Domhnall Gleeson, who believes anyone doubting his idiosyncratic team’s capabilities would be making a grave mistake.

But the staff in this extraordinary yet eccentric newsroom extends beyond seven. A familiar face, Oscar Nuñez, makes a reappearance as Oscar Martinez from ‘The Office’, remaining within his traditional domain of accounting.

Ned Sampson, acted out by Domhnall Gleeson, steps into the spotlight as the latest chief of the Toledo Truth Tellers, the newspaper office where the plot unfolds. Recently instated as the editor-in-chief, he’s filled with high hopes for the revitalisation of this once eminent and award-winning publication.

We also meet Esmeralda Grand, played by Sabrina Impacciatore. Despite her long-term career at the Toledo Truth Teller, where she serves as the managing editor, her understanding of journalism basics is found lacking. Finding Ned’s guardianship overbearing, she seeks opportunities to throw a spanner in his shining, journalistic works.

Chelsea Frei steps onto the scene as Mare Pritti, essentially the only competent journalist within the office. When she’s not engrossed in a scoop, she provides invaluable assistance, helping Ned navigate his way around the eccentric team.

Posing as Ken Davies, Tim Key assumes the role of a strategic planner at Enervate, the parent company of The Toledo Truth Teller and a slew of other paper-related ventures. Although his desk isn’t located within the newsroom, his frequent visits make him a common presence, often spotted with Esmeralda.

Oscar Nu?ez reprises his role from ‘The Office’, once again bringing to life the character of Oscar Martinez in ‘The Paper’. Quick to retort and easy to irritate, Oscar is always around to extend sensible advice to the staff.

Playing as Nicole Lee is Ramona Young. She is a reporter responsible for managing the paper’s circulation and tracking subscribers, attempting to maintain distance from the office’s daily hullabaloo. However, her co-worker, Detrick Moore, has developed affectionate feelings towards her.

Detrick Moore is personified by Melvin Gregg. Professionally, Detrick is part of the advertisement sales team, but he also appreciates the experience of writing as a volunteered reporter. Although humorously goofy, he’s sincere about attracting Nicole’s interest.

Adam Cooper, a somewhat naive and peculiar accountant, is played by Alex Edelman. Despite his quirks and lacking intellectual intensity, he’s always ready to lend a hand to his fellow staff members when help is required.

Accountant Adeola Olofin, portrayed by Gbemisola Ikumelo, volunteers her services as a reporter for the Toledo Truth Teller. Maintaining a straight face most times, she’s not one to shy away from cracking a joke, lightening the atmosphere in the office from time to time.

Finally, we meet Travis, played by Eric Rahill, who juggles his duties at Softees, a toilet paper company, with his volunteering ventures as a reporter. He can be sometimes overly committed or too nonchalant about his journalistic pursuits.
