House Budget Chief Slams Hakeem Jeffries For Medicaid ‘Fear-Mongering’

House Budget Committee Chairman Jodey Arrington is firing back at Democrat Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, calling out his blatant misinformation campaign aimed at scaring Americans over the GOP’s responsible approach to Medicaid reform.

Jeffries recently appeared on television claiming Republicans want to “end Medicaid as we know it” by proposing $850 billion in cuts. But according to Arrington, this is nothing more than fear-mongering meant to distract from the real issue: Democrats’ refusal to address waste, fraud, and abuse that’s draining the program.

Arrington made it clear that Republicans are not cutting essential benefits for vulnerable Americans. Instead, the proposed changes are aimed at restoring integrity to a broken system. According to the Government Accountability Office, Medicaid could be bleeding as much as $500 billion over the next decade due to improper payments and systemic inefficiencies.

One major problem, Arrington noted, is the Obamacare-era expansion that gives states a higher federal reimbursement rate for covering able-bodied adults than for helping the truly needy — such as low-income families, pregnant women, seniors, and individuals with disabilities. That policy structure creates a perverse incentive that prioritizes the able-bodied over the vulnerable.

The House GOP plan would correct this imbalance by phasing in commonsense work requirements for able-bodied adults receiving Medicaid — a standard already in place for other welfare programs. This simple reform could save over $1.5 trillion and help preserve Medicaid for those who actually need it.

President Trump has consistently pledged to protect core entitlements like Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security. True to that promise, the Republican budget ensures these programs are preserved, while rooting out fraud and cracking down on illegal immigrants abusing the system.

Arrington urged his colleagues to reject the scare tactics coming from the Left and focus instead on solutions that keep Medicaid sustainable for future generations. The Republican budget doesn’t dismantle Medicaid — it repairs it. And unlike Democrats, Republicans are actually willing to do the hard work to make it better.
