ICE on Track to Deport 600,000 in 2025 as Over 2 Million Migrants Leave U.S.: ‘Just the Beginning’

President Donald Trump’s sweeping crackdown on illegal immigration is already reshaping the country’s landscape. According to new data released by the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is on pace to deport more than 600,000 illegal aliens in 2025—nearly triple the number removed during the final year of the Biden administration.

But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. In total, more than 2 million illegal migrants have left the United States since January, DHS confirmed, including over 1.6 million who voluntarily self-deported after realizing they would soon be arrested or removed.

“Illegal aliens are hearing our message to leave now or face the consequence,” said DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin. “Migrants are now even turning back before they reach our borders.”

The agency has already deported over 493,000 individuals since the start of Trump’s second term, while making more than 457,000 arrests. “This is just the beginning,” a DHS official told The Post, emphasizing that enforcement actions will only accelerate.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and President Trump have “jumpstarted an agency that was vilified and barred from doing its job for the last four years,” McLaughlin said. “Federal agents are now making historic progress to carry out President Trump’s promise of arresting and deporting illegal aliens who have invaded our country.”

In contrast, only 271,000 deportations were carried out in President Biden’s final year in office, and a mere 142,000 in 2023, according to ICE data. That difference highlights the aggressive shift under Trump’s leadership.

The results are already reshaping migration patterns. DHS reports that illegal border crossings have dropped significantly, and ICE announced last month it hadn’t released a single illegal border crosser into the country for four straight months, proclaiming that “the era of open borders is over.”

But the surge in enforcement has come with new dangers for ICE agents. According to internal statistics, assaults against ICE officers have jumped 1,000% in 2025, fueled by rising tensions in left-wing sanctuary cities.

Agents have faced ambush attacks in cities like Los Angeles, Portland, and Chicago. In one incident, a 29-year-old gunman opened fire on an ICE facility in Dallas, killing two migrants awaiting deportation. In another, rioters in Chicago boxed in ICE agents using a convoy of cars on the South Side and launched a violent assault outside the Broadview detention facility.

Despite pleas for assistance, Chicago police allegedly stood down on orders from the department’s chief of patrol—an accusation the department denies.

Trump officials are unfazed. The President has declared the deportation effort a central pillar of restoring law and order, and ICE is expanding its footprint in known hot zones with reinforcements from the Texas National Guard and Homeland Security Investigations.

“Every illegal alien who came here under Joe Biden’s failed open borders agenda now has a decision to make,” said one DHS official. “Leave voluntarily, or ICE will come knocking.”
