Ignoring the Issue: Biden and Harris Silent on Mail-In Voting Dangers

In his characteristic manner of prioritizing national issues amidst a jam-packed schedule of engagements with global leaders, Trump – the predecessor to President Biden – concentrated on tackling the endemic problems associated with the indiscriminate use of mail-in voting. A significant percentage of American states, precisely 28, freely allow mail-in voting devoid of any tangible proof of necessity. In a judgement supporting Texas’ implementation of a voter ID law, James Ho of the U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeal began his decision with the affirmation that the integrity of mail-in ballots is fundamentally compromised.

Globally, there is substantial agreement on the vulnerabilities of mail-in voting, and as a result, a large number of countries have proscribed its lenient use, as is the case in the US. The Postal Service of the United States was never intended to facilitate electoral processes, indeed, an expectation contravening its intended purpose. Furthermore, increasing decline in the quality of services rendered by the postal system has been observed, including inconsistencies in applying postmarks and deteriorating timeliness in deliveries, factors compromising the usefulness of the system in conducting elections.

Drawing parallels with a famous baseball rule that faces widespread disapproval by conventional fans, it goes to say that a political party should utilize all available and legalized strategies to secure a win. Early voting, including via mail, should be encouraged among Republicans where permitted, while concurrently advocating for reverting to the standard one-day voting policy to enhance electoral integrity. Presidents Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, in an unexpected move, have been largely silent on this critical issue.

The unwavering federal law dictates that national elections should transpire over a single day, and a return to this practice would serve the country well. According to an explanation by the 5th Circuit court, ‘Absentee ballots remain the most significant source of potential voting fraud.’ Yet, Democrats including Biden and Harris have continued to dismiss any susceptibility of mail-in voting to fraudulent activities. Their stances appear to be in stark contradiction to the judicial perspective on the matter.

Democrats have put up roadblocks to GOP-led efforts that seek to audit signatures on mail-in ballots, aimed at verifying their credibility – an obstructionist approach that raises much suspicion. Complicating matters more, some entities have even gone to the extent of removing records about the influx of mail-in ballots that were used in the controversial 2020 elections. Interestingly, the Congressional majority under Republican control showed no initiative in conducting hearings on this pertinent matter, and to the surprise of many, neither did the Department of Justice initiate any investigative procedures.

From 2020 onwards, there have been considerable legislative changes in 19 states, imposing limitations on mail-in voting. This curtailed method of voting accounted for a staggering 33 million ballots in the 2020 elections, paradoxically enough, the same elections that saw Biden ascend to the Presidency. There has been no substantial investigation touching on the legitimacy of this unprecedented surge in mail-in votes, or its absence in the subsequent 2024 elections.

Mail-in voting is deemed susceptible to fraudulent manipulation globally, causing a prohibition of its use in numerous countries. With the 2024 elections witnessing almost half the country restricting mail-in ballots, Kamala Harris received 6.3 million fewer votes than Biden did in the preceding elections; in contrast, Trump secured 3 million additional votes compared to his tally in 2020. Harris’s campaign expenditure in 2024 topped a staggering $1.5 billion, raising more questions than answers about the eventual utility of such an enormous investment.

In the wake of the 2024 elections, the Department of Justice poured out millions in conducting investigations targeted at those who challenged the reported 2020 election outcome; however, it didn’t seem to show the same financial commitment towards investigating conspicuous aspects such as the rampant ballot harvesting and the dubious drop-box ballot dumps witnessed in the same year. The 6.3 million votes that mysteriously vanished between the Presidential elections of 2020 and 2024 have remained unaccounted for, as the authorities have not launched any investigations.

As Biden and Harris continue to thumb their noses at the issue, their critics argue that while nations like Germany do allow mail-in voting, they do so under significantly stricter regulations, such as decreeing that ballots should be received by Election Day to be valid. Similar to many other developed and developing countries around the world, France outlawed mail-in voting due to fraud concerns.

An array of Latin American, Middle Eastern, and European nations also prohibit the use of mail-in voting, a policy that starkly contrasts the relatively lax approach adopted in the United States. In several American states, there is an alarming absence of verification checks on mail-in signatures, coupled with a lenient acceptance of ballots till as late as 14 days post-Election Day.

In light of these existing issues, paid political figures continue to exert an undue and dangerous influence on the collection and casting of ballots, a practice that always seems to work in favor of Biden and Harris. Navigating through this morass of improprieties and fostering a healthier democratic process is a challenge that needs immediate attention.
