The endeavor of Ohio Republican Representative Jim Jordan to assume the position of Speaker of the United States House of Representatives was ultimately unsuccessful. However, he maintains his concentration on what he referred to as “one of his foremost concerns” – ensuring that President Joe Biden is held responsible.
The Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Jordan, has indicated that Republicans will make a determination in the early months of the upcoming year on the potential initiation of impeachment proceedings against President Biden.
According to Jordan, the impeachment probe conducted by the GOP requires further refinement, while a significant number of his supporters maintain the belief that the existing evidence is sufficient to warrant impeachment.
“I believe we will get the depositions and the interviews done in this calendar year and then make a decision early next year whether the actual evidence warrants going to articles of impeachment and moving to that stage of the investigation,” Jordan said.
Last Monday, James Comer (R-La.), the Chairman of the Oversight Committee who was responsible for overseeing the inquiry, issued approximately twelve subpoenas and requests for interviews. Significantly, the inquiry necessitated the provision of testimonies from Hunter Biden, the eldest son of the president and sibling of the president, as well as James Biden. Additionally, it requested the testimony of business partners and key individuals involved in the family’s transactions.
In a recent appearance on the program “Sunday Morning Futures,” Comer expressed the opinion that Joe Biden need to be ousted from his position. However, Comer refrained from specifying a timeline for this potential course of action.
The collaborative efforts of the Oversight, Judiciary, and Ways and Means committees within the House were important in conducting the inquiry. The investigative committee was established in the month of September with the objective of examining the commercial transactions of the president’s family and their purported involvement in illicit activities aimed at influencing electoral outcomes.
Within the confines of the White House, those aligned with President Biden have expressed their disapproval of the impeachment inquiry, asserting that Republicans are engaging in partisan maneuvers.
Special Counsel David Weiss, who is overseeing the case involving Hunter Biden, provided testimony to the Judiciary Committee in a closed-door session last week.
According to reports, it has been verified that he made a request to assume the role of a special counsel in June 2022, specifically for the purpose of conducting an investigation pertaining to the eldest son.
Weiss said, “I would have always been able to get it if I had asked for it,” despite the fact that Jordan, who told reporters last week that the special counsel’s evidence was contradictory, said he wouldn’t have received that status until August.
Weiss also sidestepped several inquiries in private by claiming that his work was ongoing. With regard to the tax and firearms accusations Weiss’s team presented against him, Hunter Biden entered a not guilty plea.
One of the most significant points for Jordan is that Weiss requested to collaborate with US prosecutors in the districts of Washington, DC, and Southern California, but they declined.
“Guess what that charge was going to be? It was going to be the tax year that dealt with the Burisma income,” Jordan said, referring to Hunter’s alleged shady dealings with the Ukrainian gas company.
“That to me is hugely significant because the Burisma years were all that income coming into Hunter Biden. That statute of limitations — they let it expire. And I think it expired because if they go there, that takes them right back to the White House, right back to Joe Biden.”
Host Maria Bartiromo once expressed concern about the potential timing of an impeachment. “We have an election next year, President Trump is facing four indictments, and you’ve been neglecting your duties,” the woman stated.
Jordan responded by quoting the former president of the United States, Donald Trump, who is accused of 91 crimes.
“He said they come after him because he’s fighting for us,” Jordan said of Trump. “That is true. That’s what the Swamp does. They’re going after President Trump because he kept his word, and he’s fighting for us.”
