Kamala Harris to Glorify Her Failed Campaign in a New Memoir ‘107 Days’

Despite a disappointing political career, Kamala D. Harris, erstwhile Vice President, has decided to ink a memoir recounting her disastrous 2024 attempt for the presidency. This piece of news was formally publicized by her chosen publisher, Simon & Schuster. Titled with what seems like a self-deprecating nod to its fleeting nature, ‘107 Days’ is provisionally marked for release on September 23rd.

After having seen the abrupt withdrawal of ex-President Joe Biden, inundated with skepticism surrounding his cognitive abilities and suitability for the demanding role of the office, Harris scandalously mustered a flimsy campaign for the presidential seat. As she shares in a recently released video, post her humbling defeat at the hands of Donald Trump in the 2024 polls, she resorted to her acquaintances for an analysis of the largely forgettable and ‘shortest presidential campaign in modern history.’

While geed of her attainable reflections, one wonders if the memoir will serve more as a compilation of politically incorrect decisions and unfulfilled promises rather than a profound testament. ‘Since my departure from administrative duties, reminiscing about those days has consumed me,’ Harris states. Though, it is questionable how a failed campaign could equip others to ‘move forward.’

In a slightly perplexing statement, Simon & Schuster’s chief executive hailed Harris’s memoir as ‘not your average political chronicle.’ Despite her noteworthiness as the inaugural woman vice president and first woman of color daring a run for a major-party presidential nomination, her ‘novelty’ failed to resonated with the voters – leaving her far from being considered a typical political figure.

As opposed to narrating a fruitful, inspirational journey, the overall tone of this memoir appears more inclined towards blending elements of popular TV shows ‘The West Wing’ or ‘Rocky,’— thus reading more like a political thriller with its anticlimactic ending. Despite this, the question remains—how can a falling star translate into a compelling read?

Adding some lustre to an otherwise lacklustre story, Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Geraldine Brooks has partnered with Harris for this political book. A virtually unheard-of choice for a collaborator on the political story, one can only imagine the creative liberties that Brooks had to take to glamourize what was essentially a failed political episode.

Before the dust had settled on the idea of her attempt at releasing a memoir, Harris abruptly made another announcement—she would not be running for the post of the governor of California next year, putting an end to the whirl of rumors. This sudden revelation, unfortunately, aligns with her pattern of discordant political decisions.

The content of ‘107 Days’ is expected to be focused only on her unremarkable campaign, strategically excluding her term as the vice president that is best remembered for its controversies. This choice shows a decided aversion to reflect on her past administrative responsibilities in a critical manner which was likely due to the unsavory rhetoric it might spur.

Some might remember that Harris has some previous experience as a writer, drawing from her past and initial foray into politics in her previous memoir, from 2019, ‘The Truths We Hold: An American Journey.’ Let’s hope she has learned from the mistakes detailed so clearly in the first installment, and that this second one serves as a path toward better decision-making.

Remarkably, the entire endeavour of getting this memoir ready for the press was managed in mere months. During this expedited process, Harris found time to sit with Brooks, both in-person and virtually, to outline what appears to be an ambitiously dramatized narrative of a politically lacklustre tenure.
