Authorities have charged Lindsey with being an accessory after the fact to second-degree murder. The charge follows accusations that he provided a place to stay for two murder suspects. The incident allegedly began late last month, in Alexandria, Louisiana.
Officials assert that Lindsey knowingly hosted the suspects within his university dormitory, creating a situation that might have indirectly facilitated their evasion. The young athlete, however, disputes these allegations.
Lindsey willingly surrendered to law enforcement on Friday following the issuance of a warrant by the LSU police department. The freshman running back was promptly taken into custody, exacerbating the recent complications regarding his collegiate athletic career.
Kris Perret, Lindsey’s counsel, contended that the LSU athlete was unaware of the suspects—both of whom are teenagers—as having any criminal warrants. Perret argues that Lindsey lacked knowledge about the gravity of the situation and the suspects’ crimes.
Perret steadfastly maintains that had Lindsey known anything about the suspects’ criminal situation, he would have declined to house them in his dormitory. This point was emphasized following the arrest of the suspects on Monday.
It’s important to clarify that Lindsey himself is not implicated in the murder directly. No accusation has been made suggesting that he had an active role in the commission of the crime.
The investigators, however, observed that Lindsey was seen with the suspects on multiple occasions. Surveillance footage reportedly captured Lindsey entering and exiting his dorm room with the individuals now known as suspects.
The individuals in question are Shemell Jacobs, age 17, and Keldrick Jordan, 18 years old. Both young men have been sought by the Alexandria Police Department in connection with a murder case dating back to May.
The victim of the alleged criminal act is Corey Brooks, also a teenager, who tragically lost his life in a shooting incident. For several months, the authorities have been on the hunt for those responsible for this violent act.
Jacobs and Jordan were finally apprehended on Monday at LSU’s Nicholson Gateway Apartments. Here, they were found living under the roof provided by Lindsey, placing the unsuspecting freshman in the unenviable position of facing these serious criminal charges.
Adding another layer to the case, the authorities found that Jacobs was in possession of Lindsey’s identification upon his arrest. This surprising discovery further deepened Lindsey’s link to the suspects.
