Mike Colter, who superbly portrayed Luke Cage in the acclaimed series, seems to be dropping hints about his possible involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). This comes on the heels of the announcement of a second season for Daredevil: Born Again. Once Marvel’s Defenders series returned from Netflix to Disney, fans have been eager about the possibilities of reintroducing characters like Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. With this in mind, fans’ dreams were kindled when characters such as Matt Murdock played by Charlie Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk, and Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle made big splashes in numerous MCU ventures.
Reconfirming these high hopes, news soon broke out that Jessica Jones, played by the talented Krysten Ritter, would be teaming up with Daredevil once more in the second season. However, the status of other members from the Defenders remained shrouded in mystery. In the midst of this uncertainty, Mike Colter gave the impression that his virtually indestructible character Luke Cage may return in the upcoming season of Born Again or in another ground-level operation.
Thanks to Jessica Jones’ return, it’s not wholly implausible to expect Mike Colter’s Luke Cage and Finn Jones’ Danny Rand, famously known as Iron Fist, to be reintroduced into the narrative. All this points to a clear shift in strategy by Marvel Studios and Disney in their approach towards Marvel streaming shows. They now plan to focus on serialized productions with the potential to spawn multiple seasons on an annual schedule.
The introduction of Daredevil: Born Again has marked a promising beginning for this fresh spell of Marvel Television programming. This could act as the ideal launchpad for many more narratives focusing on superheroes at the grassroots level. If the streaming platform manages to bring back all the Defenders, not just Jessica Jones, it would definitely be a major success for their viewership.
Speculation has been rife about Mike Colter’s Luke Cage and Finn Jones’ Iron Fist joining the second season of Daredevil: Born Again. This was fueled by the fact that both actors were in New York at the same time when the second season was being filmed. As it stands, being without the robust Luke Cage portrayed by Mike Colter would be quite an unexpected move for the showmakers.
It’s beyond doubt that Colter aced his role as Luke Cage, sharing a dynamic chemistry with his fellow actors. His portrayal displayed an on-screen charisma that was gentle and calming but also intimidating and powerful when the scene demanded. It would indeed be exciting to watch him reunite with Daredevil’s Cox and Jessica Jones’ Ritter. Even stronger excitement brews at the prospect of seeing Luke Cage team up once again with Iron Fist.
Luke Cage’s heroic deeds in Harlem and Wilson Fisk’s campaign against New York vigilantes in Born Again take inspiration straight from the comic pages. In a plot twist, Luke Cage is summoned to run for Mayor against Fisk. This leads one to envision a world where Matt Murdock should at least allow his ally to join his force, or at the very least, caution Luke Cage about the impending threats.
As things stand, Daredevil’s company of heroes seems pretty thin. However, picture a world where Daredevil teamed up with likes of Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and the Immortal Iron Fist! They have previously demonstrated their power when united, as seen in The Defenders. Given their proven potential, this possibility certainly doesn’t seem too far-fetched.
