Man Suspected of Homicide Arrested in Parkway Village Incident

A Saturday incident in Parkway Village resulted in the arrest of a man who was allegedly involved in multiple serious offenses. Gabriel Pickett, a 31-year-old male, is the prime suspect in a homicide and is also being accused of reckless endangerment. After being perceived as dangerously firing at cars, Pickett found himself in the custody of local law enforcement.

The night of June 21 saw the officers responding to a shots fired report around the Knight Arnold and Perkins proximity. Upon their arrival, law enforcement was flagged down by an individual who shared a concerning encounter. The individual described seeing a man dressed in a white T-shirt and gray sweatpants walking down Knight Arnold, discharging his firearm at passing cars.

Reportedly, the individual’s 2014 red BMW was impeded by the gunfire, reinforcing the claim of reckless endangerment. Due to the detailed description of the perpetrator’s clothes, law enforcement quickly fanned out to conduct a search in the area. Their effort was rewarded when they located Gabriel Pickett not far from the site of reported gunfire.

Pickett’s attire perfectly matched the description given earlier, prompting immediate detention. However, when the victim had an opportunity to potentially identify Pickett from a safe distance, there was a failure to definitively confirm, if Pickett was indeed the shooter. Due to the lack of this crucial piece of evidence, Pickett was subsequently released.

In the early morning of June 22, law enforcement was dispatched to a domestic disturbance call from the 3200 block of Cookie Cove. Upon arrival, they found Gabriel Pickett embroiled in an intense verbal dispute with a female. Officers intervened and decided to defuse the situation by driving Pickett back to his residence in the 3100 block of Craig Street.

Once outside Pickett’s home, a shocking revelation saw Pickett reluctant to reenter his own home. His reason for this was quite unsettling as he informed the officers of a deceased individual inside his house. This new information drew the attention of the officers and the swiftly transitioned from being mediators to investigators.

The officers cautiously made entry into the home and their worst fears were confirmed. A man lay lifeless inside the dwelling, his body riddled with multiple gunshot wounds. The circumstances surrounding his death were shady, intensifying the mystery that officers needed to unravel.

Upon the arrival of paramedics, the man’s tragic fate was officially confirmed; he had indeed succumbed to his gun-inflicted injuries. As officers conducted further investigation, they discovered a video footage that dramatically changed the narrative. The footage, seemingly recorded from a house across the street, showed Pickett engaging in a heated argument with the now deceased man right outside the house.

The video then showed Pickett escalating from verbal to physical aggression, culminating in him shooting the man. After the heinous act, Pickett can be seen bolting from the scene, launching a barrage of bullets on a Dodge Challenger traveling northward on Craig street. Pickett’s terror did not end there, as the video showed him turning eastward on Knight Arnold, continuing his gunfire spree on other vehicles.

Following this revelation, Pickett was detained and transported to the Homicide Bureau, where he was questioned regarding the recent events. He shared with the officers a series of thoughts that had been tormenting him for the past several months. Pickett expressed that he often felt stalked which made him resort to carrying a firearm for personal protection.

Pickett also indicated that the victim, the man found dead in his house, was among the people he suspected were following him. According to Pickett’s narration, he had asked the victim to retreat to his room. However, when the victim reemerged, Pickett was startled and instinctively fired his weapon, leading to the tragic incident.

After this, Pickett claimed to have dashed out of his house. In his paranoia, he opened fire on the vehicles he suspected were part of the conspiracy to follow him. These actions correlated with the video footage showing Pickett shooting at passing cars, providing credence to his recounting.

Lastly, Pickett touched on the whereabouts of the firearm he had used. He communicated to the officers that he had disposed of the weapon somewhere along Knight Arnold. However, he failed to provide a specific location, leaving law enforcement with the task of tracing the gun through his vaguely sketched path.
