A search is currently ongoing in the state of Georgia for a suspect believed to be involved in a hostage situation involving a baby and assaulting a law enforcement officer. The Hogansville Police Department has reported that their officers were summoned to a house on Lawrence Street’s 500 block close to 11 p.m. on Friday, following reports of a commotion and gunshots heard in the vicinity. Upon reaching the scene, a 30-year-old man by the name Jarmmal Cox was seen fleeing the scene on foot. In the aftermath, officers were able to discover narcotics and a firearm at the site.
A call around 1:50 a.m. on Saturday led law enforcement officials back to the same residence after another disturbance was reported. According to the statements given by police officials, Cox is believed to have struck a Hogansville policing vehicle and fled the scene. Subsequently, Cox allegedly initiated a vehicular pursuit, resulting in a crash near Dickinson Street and Green Avenue, following which he reportedly fled on foot.
Emerging information suggested that Cox was armed and holding a baby hostage. Owing to this, the intervention of the specialized SWAT Team from the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office was required. Once the SWAT team arrived on site, due to the escalating severity of the situation, the team felt it necessary to call for additional backup from the Fulton County Police Department’s SWAT Team.
One of the primary objectives of law enforcement was to ensure the absolute safety of the infant. In addition, they were working towards achieving a nonviolent resolution to the situation, making every effort to negotiate Cox’s surrender. The SWAT officers proceeded to enter the residence, with intense caution prioritizing the well-being of the child.
Upon entry into the house, police confirmed that they found the infant safe and unharmed. However, complicating their operation further, it was discovered that Cox had managed to escape before the SWAT team could secure the premises. The police confirmed that the infant was indeed safe but Cox had evaded capture, slipping away before the SWAT team could infiltrate the building.
The serious charges that Cox is currently facing include aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and fleeing from enforcement officials. The authorities state that they anticipate additional charges to be filed considering the severity of the events. The Hogansville Police Department urges anyone with potential leads on Cox’s whereabouts to reach out to their department.
