First Lady Melania Trump announced Wednesday that seven more Ukrainian children have been reunited with their families, marking another step forward in her ongoing humanitarian initiative amid the prolonged conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
The children — six boys and one girl — were reportedly displaced during the war and have now been safely returned to their families in Ukraine. The effort, which Melania Trump has personally championed, aims to bring home children separated by wartime evacuations, border crossings, or government interventions.
In a statement, the first lady emphasized her commitment to the cause.
“My dedication to guaranteeing the safe return of children to their families in this region is unwavering,” she said.
This latest development follows an October announcement in which Melania revealed eight Ukrainian children had been successfully reunited with their families. That brings the current total of children reunited through the initiative to 15.
“I commend the leadership and persistent diplomacy of Russia and Ukraine in the pursuit of the reunification of children and families,” her statement continued. “Their bridge-building has created a tangible collaborative environment — an anchor for optimism. This cooperation will continue to drive the process forward through the next phase.”
The reunifications are being carried out in coordination with local officials and international partners. Melania Trump’s office has not disclosed specific details about the identities of the children or their families, citing privacy and security concerns.
“In close partnership, my representative and I have provided humanitarian support from the United States to enhance the reunification initiative’s outcome. My hope is that, ultimately, our collective efforts will lead to broader regional stability,” the former first lady added.
Maria Lvova-Belova, the Russian Federation’s commissioner for children’s rights, acknowledged Trump’s role in the process, writing on Telegram: “We thank the first lady for her unwavering commitment and involvement in the effort.”
The announcement comes as President Donald Trump continues to push for an end to the war, claiming “tremendous progress” is being made in peace talks facilitated by his administration.
Just before Thanksgiving, Trump confirmed that no further summits will occur until Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky are ready to finalize a deal.
“Let’s all hope that PEACE can be accomplished AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!” Trump said in a recent statement.
The peace push gained momentum last week when Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll told ABC News that “the Ukrainians have agreed to the peace deal,” calling it a major breakthrough. “There are some minor details to be sorted out, but they have agreed to a peace deal,” Driscoll said.
If completed, the Trump-brokered peace agreement would end one of the deadliest and most geopolitically disruptive conflicts in Europe in recent history. In the meantime, Melania Trump’s work continues to return the war’s youngest victims to their loved ones.
