Nick Reiner to Be Charged With Double Homicide in Rob and Michele Reiner’s Deaths

Nick Reiner will be formally charged with the murders of his parents, legendary Hollywood director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman announced Tuesday.

Speaking alongside LAPD Chief Jim McDonell at a press conference, Hochman said prosecutors will file two counts of first-degree murder, along with special circumstances for multiple murders and the personal use of a deadly weapon.

“These charges will be two counts of first-degree murder with a special circumstance of multiple murders,” Hochman said. “He also faces a special allegation that he personally used a dangerous and deadly weapon, that being a knife. These charges carry a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty.”

Nick Reiner, 32, was expected to make his first court appearance Tuesday, but his attorney, Alan Jackson, said his client has not been medically cleared to be transported. Reiner remains in custody and is being held without bail.

Rob and Michele Reiner were found dead Sunday, December 14, inside their Brentwood, California home. Los Angeles police were dispatched to the residence around 3:40 p.m. for a death investigation, according to the LAPD. Once inside, officers discovered the two victims and immediately turned the case over to the Robbery-Homicide Division’s Homicide Special Section.

During a separate press conference Monday, Chief McDonell confirmed that details were still limited but acknowledged the seriousness of the case. Nick Reiner was identified as the suspect and booked on suspicion of murder before prosecutors finalized charges.

Investigators believe both Rob and Michele Reiner suffered fatal stab wounds, according to a law enforcement official who spoke on condition of anonymity. The alleged murder weapon was identified as a knife.

Nick Reiner was initially booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center before being transferred to the Inmate Reception Center and later to the Twin Towers Correctional Facility, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

A family spokesperson initially confirmed the deaths, asking for privacy as the investigation unfolded. Rob and Michele Reiner had three children together: Jake, Nick, and Romy.

The case has stunned Hollywood and the public alike, not only because of Rob Reiner’s decades-long prominence in film and television, but also due to the disturbing nature of the allegations. Prosecutors have not yet outlined a motive, and further details are expected to emerge as the case proceeds through the court system.
