Obama Says Men Need Gay Friends Because They Might Have ‘Non-Binary’ Sons

Former President Barack Obama is facing backlash after suggesting that men should have gay friends to prepare them in case they have a gay or “non-binary” son.

Obama made the remarks during an appearance on his wife Michelle Obama’s podcast, “Michelle Obama: The Light Podcast,” co-hosted by her brother Craig Robinson. The episode focused on parenting and male role models, but quickly took a turn when Obama began reflecting on his own college experience with a gay professor.

“One of the most valuable things I learned, as a guy,” Obama said, “was I had a gay professor in college… who would call me out when I started saying stuff that was ignorant.”

He went on to argue that boys need more than just a father figure, suggesting they benefit from a “diverse” set of role models — particularly those who could challenge their thinking. But the part raising eyebrows came when he made a direct link between friendship with gay men and raising a potentially gay or “non-binary” child.

“You need that person in your friend group,” Obama said, “so that if you then have a boy who is gay or non-binary or what have you, they have somebody that they can go, ‘Okay, I’m not alone in this.’”

Critics argue the former president’s remarks reveal how deeply committed he remains to the radical gender ideology he helped mainstream during his presidency. In 2016, Obama used executive action to force schools to allow biological males into female bathrooms and locker rooms by reinterpreting Title IX to include “gender identity.”

That controversial move was quickly reversed under President Donald Trump, whose administration returned Title IX enforcement to its original, biological sex-based intent. Trump’s DOJ has also gone after blue states attempting to ignore these federal guidelines.

Conservatives blasted Obama’s comments as another example of the left’s obsession with redefining gender and family roles. “This isn’t about empathy — it’s about normalization and indoctrination,” one commentator said. “Obama is basically saying you need to prepare to affirm gender confusion as a default, not a rare exception.”

While Obama tried to couch his remarks in language of “kindness” and “empathy,” many see it as a continuation of the cultural agenda he championed in office — one that undermined traditional family values and parental authority in the name of so-called inclusion.
