Police have identified a person of interest in Saturday’s shooting at Brown University, according to multiple outlets.
Law enforcement is now searching for the individual, CBS News reports, and Fox News confirms that an arrest warrant has been issued. Authorities have not yet publicly named the suspect but are actively pursuing both the person and a vehicle believed to be connected to the attack.
The vehicle, reportedly rented in Boston, is the same make and model believed to have been used in the Monday murder of MIT professor Nuno Loureiro in Brookline, Massachusetts, just 48 hours after the Brown University shooting. The New York Times reports that police believe the same individual may be connected to both incidents. Authorities have warned officers in the Boston area that the suspect may be armed and dangerous.
On Saturday, two Brown students — 19-year-old Ella Cook and 18-year-old MukhammadAziz Umurzokov — were killed when a gunman opened fire inside the Barus & Holley engineering building. Nine other students were wounded. Surveillance footage showed the suspect loitering around the Brown campus for hours in a dark jacket, mask, and hat before the shooting.

A second person of interest, seen in the vicinity of the shooting wearing a blue jacket, green hood, and carrying a white satchel, was also identified earlier this week.

Investigators recovered critical physical evidence at the crime scene, including live ammunition and DNA. The Providence Police Department has since expanded its forensic investigation and released a detailed map showing the wider area of interest.
The expected Thursday afternoon press conference with city officials and law enforcement, originally scheduled for 4 p.m. EST, has been delayed, according to a spokesperson for the Providence mayor.
