PM Modi Comes Forward with Stern Warning after Pahalgam Terrorist Attack

In an impassioned speech to the public in the Madhubani district of Bihar on the 24th of April, 2025, the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly expressed his determination to ensure the responsible parties for the recent heart-wrenching Pahalgam terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir would face severe consequences. He forcefully made his point clear, stating that the punitive measures would surpass their worst fears. This statement came only two days following the terrorist attack that claimed the lives of 26 innocent people.

Shortly after India’s decision to temporarily suspend the Indus Water Treaty, the office of Pakistan’s Prime Minister reacted fiercely, stating that such a move would be perceived as an act of open hostility. In a countermeasure, Pakistan announced they would block their airspace to Indian aircraft and put a halt to all trade activities between the two countries.

On that same day, April 24th, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif presided over a meeting of the country’s National Security Committee. The Committee, which consists of top military and civilian leaders, convened only a few days after the catastrophic terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam that had tragically resulted in the deaths of mostly tourists.

In the aftermath of this horrific event, disturbing reports started filtering out from Punjab and Uttarakhand of Kashmiri students facing assault and harassment. These troubling incidents were reported by the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA). In response to these incidents, J&K’s Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, assured that communications were ongoing with his counterparts in these states to address the emerging crisis.

Not long after this meeting, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, along with Minister of External Affairs Jaishankar, made a personal visit to President Droupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi. They used the meeting to update her on the somber situation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, particularly regarding the recent terrorist attack. This briefing happened just a day before a previously planned all-party meeting.

On the same day, a confrontational clash between security forces and militants resulted in the untimely death of an army soldier in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district. The encounter occurred during a search operation, launched in the wake of intelligence on the presence of insurgents in the Dudu-Basantgarh region.

Seeking clarity and remedies to prevent future attacks, the Congress Working Committee requested a thorough analysis of the oversights and failures in intelligence and security that inadvertently led to the Pahalgam atrocity on April 21, 2025. The party also pointed an accusatory finger at Pakistan, holding them responsible for orchestrating the brutal terror attack.

In another development on that eventful day, the Supreme Court announced its decision to commence a final hearing on May 6 and 7 on the appeals made by the Gujarat Government and other convicts in the 2002 Godhra train burning incident. The Justices involved in the case, J.K. Maheshwari and Rajesh Bindal, directed senior advocate Sanjay Hegde to prepare a detailed submission outlining the main points regarding his client’s charges, the previous courts’ findings, and his counter-arguments.

Meanwhile, in a push towards achieving sustainable coal production, the government announced on April 24, 2025 that it would offer incentives like waiving off the upfront payment for operationalizing underground coal blocks. This initiative is expected to expedite the mining process and reduce environmental impact.

On the law enforcement front, the West Bengal Police disclosed on the same day that they had arrested an additional five individuals in connection to the Murshidabad riots. These latest arrests brought the total tally to 307. According to a senior officer, all the recently apprehended suspects had direct involvement in the violent clashes that saw three citizens lose their lives and many others injured.
