Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. clashed with Senator Michael Bennet (D-CO) in a tense Capitol Hill hearing Thursday, with tempers flaring over vaccine policy and transparency.
Kennedy, who has faced intense scrutiny from Senate Democrats over his reorganization of federal health panels, defended his decision to include prominent medical experts who have raised questions about the safety of mRNA vaccines — including Dr. Robert Malone, a key figure in the development of the technology.
Senator Bennet, visibly agitated, repeatedly accused Kennedy of dishonesty and demanded that the secretary provide full transparency before any recommendations on childhood vaccines are issued. “Will you make it transparent for the American people so they can comment?” Bennet pressed.
Kennedy pushed back, insisting, “All the evidence is transparent — for the first time in history,” while calling out the previous lack of transparency when pharmaceutical companies were quietly steering those same panels. “You were never there complaining when the pharmaceutical companies were picking those people and then running their products through with no safety,” Kennedy added.
Bennet, refusing to back down, fired off: “What I said was accurate. What you said were lies!”
The exchange escalated when Kennedy asked directly, “Are you saying the mRNA vaccine has never been associated with myocarditis and pericarditis?” Bennet tried to pivot back to his original line of questioning, only to be cut off again.
“You are evading the question!” Kennedy snapped.
“I’m asking the questions here, Mr. Kennedy!” Bennet shouted. “On behalf of parents and schools and teachers all over the United States of America who deserve so much better than your leadership.”
Kennedy, unshaken, replied with a parting shot: “They deserve the truth. And that’s what we’re going to give them. For the first time in the history of that agency.”
The hearing was one of the most heated public confrontations Kennedy has faced since becoming HHS Secretary. His appointment by President Trump sparked outcry from Democrats, but he has remained defiant — vowing to restore public trust in health institutions through independent oversight and full transparency.
