The New Jersey teen accused of stalking and murdering two high school girls was driving nearly three times the speed limit when he plowed into their electric bike, according to newly released court records.
Vincent Battiloro, 17, was allegedly barreling down a Cranford residential street at 70 mph in a 25-mph zone when he struck and killed Maria Niotis and Isabella Salas around 5:30 p.m. Monday, a traffic summons obtained by MyCentralJersey revealed.
Battiloro, who faces two counts of first-degree murder, has also been accused by family and friends of relentlessly stalking Maria in the weeks leading up to the crash — even reportedly sitting outside her house for hours at a time.
In addition to the murder charges, Battiloro was issued at least 15 traffic citations, including reckless driving, speeding, and leaving the scene of an accident. He remains in custody as prosecutors weigh whether to try him as an adult.
Loved ones remembered Maria and Isabella as best friends with promising futures, describing Maria as an aspiring cosmetologist and Isabella as a gifted singer with the “voice of an angel.”
