Swift’s Unwise Endorsement of Kamala Harris in 2024 Race Incites Trump’s Ire

Pop icon Taylor Swift’s vocalization of political beliefs began in earnest in 2018, with a clear anti-Trump sentiment setting the stage. The singer constantly criticized what she perceived as Trump’s conservative-leaning policies and divisive rhetoric, aiming to sway her vast fanbase to vote the 45th president out of office. Her years-long advocacy seemingly culminated in 2020, when she vowed the American electorate would dethrone Trump following his rebuke of the BLM protests sparked by George Floyd’s death.

Trump’s defeat in the 2020 elections saw Joe Biden assume the presidency, with rumors of his potential re-run in 2024 rife. However, Biden would later pivot, surprisingly ceding his place to Vice President Kamala Harris. Despite the shift, Swift’s political fury didn’t waver – her opposition to Trump remained unbowed.

However, Trump’s stance towards the Grammy-winning artist fluctuated wildly. Back in 2012, he displayed an appreciation of Swift by tweeting a thank-you note for a photograph. That same year, he even seemed to offer his two cents on Swift’s split from Conor Kennedy.

Trump continued to engage with the singer’s career in 2012, congratulating her for securing an eminent hosting opportunity. His previous cordial stance would dramatically shift in 2018 when Swift broke her silence on political matters just before midterms. The then-president chastised her, claiming the popstar ‘knew nothing’ about Blackburn.

Fast forward to 2023, and Trump was once again commenting on Swift’s personal life. This time, it was her romantic involvement with Travis Kelce, the tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs. Trump’s focus on Swift seemed to ebb and flow with her relevance.

Interestingly, Trump even claimed a musical victory over the pop star in the wake of releasing his track ‘Justice for All.’ Perhaps in a bout of self-promotion or an attempt to distract, Trump contrasted his song’s success against Swift’s discography.

Trump didn’t mince words when speculating Swift’s possible political leanings. He insinuated that Swift couldn’t feasibly support Biden for re-election in 2024, given the former president’s record at the time of his withdrawal from the Presidential race.

In a surprising contextual twist, Trump showered Swift with unanticipated compliments in his collaborative work with Mark Burnett titled ‘Apprentice in Wonderland.’ Recognizing the popstar’s aesthetic appeal, Trump referred to Swift as ‘unusually beautiful.’ Uncharacteristically positive, Trump appeared to momentarily forget his political grievances.

However, Swift’s endorsement of Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential race seemed to draw Trump’s ire anew. Swift’s decision to publicly back the democratic nominee came shortly after Harris’s first debate with Trump, triggering his swift rebuke that Swift might ‘pay a price in the marketplace’ for her political stance.

Trump’s simmering resentment finally boiled over on Truth Social. Seemingly incited by the popstar’s endorsement of his political adversary, Trump didn’t hold back, stating plainly that he ‘hates’ Taylor Swift.

Both Trump and Swift happened to attend the 2025 Super Bowl, an event that was not without its share of controversy. It seemed the ongoing battle of words between the two took a new turn as Trump spied an opportunity to taunt Swift over boos received during the game.

Trump’s fickle relationship with Swift, tinted by his mercurial personality, was further evidenced when he reneged on his previous praise of her physical attractiveness. The ageing musician, perhaps led by sour grapes or personal insecurity, publicly denounced Swift as no longer aesthetically desirable. The move was peculiar, showcasing a strange need to throw shade even when it comes to looks.
