Tesla Charging Station: Site of Anti-Musk Protests

Stationed in Auburn, the Tesla recharging site finds itself nestled in a parking area, just across the street from where Robert H. Goddard, a renowned innovator and scientist who hailed from Worcester, initiated his pioneering feat of launching the first rocket powered by liquid oxygen-gasoline 99 years prior. Goddard, a humble man dedicated to the improvement of human life through scientific pursuits, is recognized as a genius visionary.

On the 29th of March, a group congregated in front of these Tesla charging stations, airing their grievances with Elon Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency, much to the astonishment of passersby. The striking parallel between the site of Goddard’s first launch and the demonstration against Musk, an affluent entrepreneur who has dreams of Mars colonization, was not overlooked by a placard bearer named Jean, who held no affection for individuals of Musk’s stature.

While most of the passing vehicular traffic vocalized their approval with enthusiastic honks, there were also a handful of dissenting drivers resorting to crude hand gestures and revving their engines as they sped towards, and occasionally through, the red traffic lights. Despite this, Jean and her fellow picketers kept the atmosphere light-hearted.

Jean’s balanced demeanor seemed to echo throughout the crowd, a heterogeneous assembly of older adults, representatives of the trans community, politically aware citizens, all braving the chilly, wet Saturday afternoon to express their discontent. Their protest signs were a balanced mix of stern resolve and respectful dissent, ranging from ‘BILLIONAIRES vs YOU, NOT RED vs BLUE,’ ‘I ENDED MY INVESTMENTS IN TESLA’ to ‘DOGE DEPICTS DEPARTMENT of OVERINDULGENCE and OPPRESSION.’

In addition to these vehement denunciations, there were also placards exuding gentler sentiments, calling for the dismissal of authoritarian rule while pronouncing that we are ‘STRONGER COLLECTIVELY.’ As the day wore on, the group of protesters seemed to multiply, eventually adding up to an approximate total of 160 individuals.

Despite their united front, a subtle undercurrent of apprehension could be detected amongst the protesters. Still, this minor discomfort did not manage to undermine their collective resolve. The majority of the crowd consisted of individuals who might have never foreseen themselves as ‘activists,’ yet they now find it necessary to be more proactive rather than idly voicing complaints.

Adding rhythm to the energetic atmosphere, a drummer intermingled with the gathered crowd. During the last segment of the protest, the chants of ‘ Hey Hey! Ho! Ho! Elon Musk ought to leave now!’ resonated in the air, much to Jean’s vivacious exhilaration. This event left Jean feeling both revived and exceptionally gratified.

Galvanized by the event’s outcome, Jean has since decided to organize a ‘Protest Toolkit,’ which includes a versatile two-faced placard that shows the message ‘SAME TO YOU!’ to anyone who reacts unfavorably. Her kit will also contain additional protest signs for those who decide to participate last minute and may come unprepared.

On that memorable Saturday, Jean, along with other concerned citizens, shared placards and cheered unitedly. They found considerable pleasure from the encouraging gestures they received from the Tesla drivers. This protest not only gathered people but also seemed to strengthen the unity and resolve of this diverse group. Their shared energy demonstrated a feeling of an inspired and cohesive community.
