Texas Woman Faces Federal Charges After Allegedly Threatening FBI Agents With Machete

A 28-year-old Houston woman is facing serious federal charges after reportedly brandishing a machete and threatening FBI agents during a welfare check last month, escalating what was intended as a routine visit into a dangerous confrontation.

Jennifer Jesselle Perez-Rodriguez was approached by federal agents at a trailer park in south Houston on April 17. The agents were conducting a welfare check related to unaccompanied minors when Perez-Rodriguez allegedly charged at them with a machete in hand, ignoring repeated commands to stop.

According to court filings, she swung the weapon and advanced aggressively toward two unmarked FBI vehicles. An agent on the scene, believing lives were in immediate danger, discharged his firearm, striking Perez-Rodriguez in the back and ending the threat. She was quickly taken into custody and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses at the scene said Perez-Rodriguez had been acting erratically earlier that day, attempting to provoke fights and creating disturbances in the area. Her motives remain unclear, though prosecutors have emphasized the seriousness of assaulting federal officers, particularly with a deadly weapon.

Perez-Rodriguez made her initial appearance in federal court on May 2 and was appointed a public defender. Prosecutors are pushing for her to be held without bond ahead of trial, citing the danger she poses to law enforcement and the community.

If convicted of assaulting federal officers with a deadly weapon, she could face up to 20 years in prison.

This incident highlights the growing challenges federal law enforcement officers face in communities where tensions have risen, often fueled by anti-government sentiment and a breakdown in respect for the rule of law. Agents are increasingly encountering hostility even during non-enforcement actions like welfare checks.

Federal authorities have made it clear they won’t tolerate violence against agents acting in the line of duty. As one official put it: “No one has the right to threaten law enforcement with a weapon and expect to walk away without consequences.”
