Trump Appoints Erika Kirk To Air Force Academy Board Of Visitors

President Donald Trump has appointed Erika Kirk, the widow of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, to serve on the Board of Visitors for the United States Air Force Academy.

The appointment follows the death of Charlie Kirk, who had previously been selected to serve on the board before he was assassinated on September 10 while speaking at an event at Utah Valley University.

Erika Kirk now joins the board while also serving as the chief executive officer of Turning Point USA, the conservative youth organization her husband founded.

According to the Air Force Academy’s website, the Board of Visitors provides oversight and advice regarding the academy’s operations.

“The Board inquires into the morale, discipline, curriculum, instruction, physical equipment, fiscal affairs, academic methods and other matters relating to the Academy which the Board decides to consider,” the academy states.

Kirk will serve alongside several other board members appointed by President Trump, including Senator Tommy Tuberville of Alabama, Dan Clark, Doug Nikolai, and Dina Powell. One position on the board remains vacant.

The Board of Visitors includes a mix of presidential appointees and members selected by congressional leadership.

According to the academy, six members are appointed by the president, while others are designated by the Speaker of the House, the House Minority Leader, leadership from the House Armed Services Committee, the Senate Majority Leader, the Senate Minority Leader, and the Senate Armed Services Committee.

Representative August Pfluger of Texas, a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy who now serves as chair of the board, praised the appointment.

“I applaud President Trump for appointing Erika Kirk to the U.S. Air Force Academy Board of Visitors,” Pfluger said.

“I encouraged this appointment as Erika is the right person to fill Charlie’s place on the Board and continue his work of inspiring the next generation of service members and advancing the Academy,” he added.

Pfluger also said he looks forward to working with Kirk as the board continues its oversight of the academy and its mission of preparing future officers for service in the United States Air Force.
