Trump Making Change To Border Wall To Make It Harder To Climb

The Department of Homeland Security will give the southern border wall a new upgrade aimed at making it tougher to scale: a coat of black paint. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced Tuesday that, under President Donald Trump’s direction, the wall will be painted black so it absorbs more heat, making it hotter and more difficult for illegal crossers to climb.

Standing in Santa Teresa, New Mexico, Noem highlighted the wall’s existing design, which already goes deep into the ground to stop tunneling and stands tall to deter climbing. “We are also going to be painting it black. That is specifically at the request of the president who understands that in the hot temperatures down here, when something is painted black, it gets even warmer, and it will make it even harder for people to climb,” Noem said.

She explained that the goal is not only to discourage illegal entry but also to reinforce the message that immigration must be done lawfully. “We are going to be painting the entire southern border wall black to make sure that we encourage individuals to not come into our country illegally, to not break our federal laws, but that they will abide and come to our country the right way so that they can stay and have the opportunity to become United States citizens and pursue the American dream.”

Beyond the paint, DHS is also retrofitting the wall with more cameras, sensors, and advanced monitoring technology to better track potential illegal crossers and cartel operatives. These upgrades are being funded through the administration’s recently passed One Big, Beautiful Bill, which significantly boosted resources for border security and enforcement.

The black paint idea was something Trump had pushed for during his first term, envisioning a wall that was not only a physical barrier but one that was scorching to touch in the desert sun. He had even floated additional deterrents like spikes on top of the wall. With fresh funding and renewed authority, his administration is now putting those ideas into motion to further fortify the southern border.
