Trump Pulls U.S. Out Of Dozens Of ‘Wasteful’ And ‘Radical’ International Organizations

President Donald Trump signed an executive order Wednesday withdrawing the United States from 66 international organizations deemed to be ineffective, ideologically extreme, or detrimental to American interests. The decision targets entities focused on climate change, gender activism, and global governance.

The State Department stated that the withdrawals follow a months-long review ordered by Trump in February. The move represents a sweeping shift in American foreign policy, one that prioritizes national sovereignty over multilateral entanglements.

“These withdrawals keep a key promise President Trump made to Americans — we will stop subsidizing globalist bureaucrats who act against our interests,” said Secretary of State Marco Rubio. “The Trump administration will always put America and Americans first.”

Among the groups the U.S. is departing are the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy Compact, the Green Climate Fund, and the UN Entity for Gender Equality. Other exits include the Global Forum on Migration and Development, the International Solar Alliance, the Commission for Environmental Cooperation, and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent specifically called out the Green Climate Fund, a UN-backed initiative that pressures wealthy countries to bankroll climate initiatives in developing nations. “Our nation will no longer fund radical organizations like the GCF whose goals run contrary to the fact that affordable, reliable energy is fundamental to economic growth and poverty reduction,” Bessent said.

The decision was met with praise from critics of climate and social justice initiatives. Jason Isaac, CEO of the American Energy Institute, said the move is “a long overdue course correction that puts American sovereignty, economic strength, and energy security back first.” He added that these organizations “have used climate and ESG agendas to weaken American industry and raise costs for families.”

According to the State Department, the review of international organizations is ongoing. Officials left open the possibility of future withdrawals. The Trump administration has already pulled the U.S. out of the World Health Organization, the UN Human Rights Council, and the Paris Climate Accord in previous years.

“We will not continue expending resources, diplomatic capital, and the legitimizing weight of our participation in institutions that are irrelevant to or in conflict with our interests,” the department said in a statement. “We reject inertia and ideology in favor of prudence and purpose. We seek cooperation where it serves our people and will stand firm where it does not.”

Trump allies view the sweeping exit as a win for America First policy. Critics are calling it isolationist. But for Trump’s base, it’s another example of the president doing exactly what he said he would: cut through the globalist fog and put American interests back in the driver’s seat.
