During a recent broadcast, MSNBC presented previously undisclosed audio in which Donald Trump vehemently refutes a statement made by Ronna McDaniel, the Chair of the Republican National Committee, regarding his alleged intention to abandon the Republican Party.
The audio recording was provided to the network by Jonathan Karl, a journalist from ABC News, who initially disclosed the conversation in his publication titled “Betrayal.” During the Monday episode of Inside with Jen Psaki, the recording was aired for the first time.
“[O]n his last day in office shortly after boarding Air Force One, Donald Trump spoke with Republican Party chair Ronna McDaniel and delivered some pretty uncomfortable news,” Jen Psaki said, recounting the scene from Karl’s book shortly after Trump left the White House. “He told McDaniel he was leaving the GOP and creating his own political party, threatening to destroy the Republican Party altogether.”
After that, she played the July 2021 audio:
KARL: When you got on the plane, you got a call from Ronald McDaniel. Do you recall? Do you recall that phone conversation?
TRUMP: No.
KARL: Because you, you had–
TRUMP: What did she say?
KARL: That you–
TRUMP: What did she say?
KARL: That you told her you were gonna leave the Republican Party.
TRUMP: This is the sickest thing I’ve ever heard. I never said any such thing. You mean, I was gonna form another party or something?
KARL: Yes, yes.
TRUMP: Oh, that’s bullsh*t, ok? Never happened.
Donald Trump is presently the leading candidate in the race for the Republican presidential nomination in the upcoming year, while facing legal charges in four countries.
