Trump Says Tucker Carlson ‘Lost His Way’ Amid Iran Dispute

President Donald Trump delivered some of his sharpest criticism yet of commentator Tucker Carlson on Thursday, saying the former Fox News host has “lost his way.”

Speaking to ABC News reporter Jon Karl, Trump said Carlson no longer represents the MAGA movement and lacks the understanding to grasp what it stands for.

“Tucker has lost his way,” Trump said. “I knew that a long time ago, and he’s not MAGA. MAGA is saving our country. MAGA is making our country great again. MAGA is America first, and Tucker is none of those things.”

Trump added that Carlson is “not smart enough to understand” the movement’s goals.

The comments come as Carlson has emerged as a vocal critic of Trump’s military campaign against Iran. Carlson recently called the operation “absolutely disgusting and evil” and has repeatedly questioned the administration’s foreign policy decisions.

Carlson had previously been a strong ally of Trump and campaigned for him during the 2024 presidential race. In recent months, however, the relationship has cooled as Carlson has criticized the administration’s approach to international conflicts.

Despite the growing tension, Carlson reportedly visited the White House several times this year and met with Trump privately. Those meetings were reportedly part of efforts to persuade the president not to launch military strikes against Iran.

Trump’s latest comments represent a significant shift from his stance last year when he defended Carlson’s independence as a media figure. In November, Trump declined to criticize Carlson over an interview with controversial commentator Nick Fuentes, saying that media personalities should be free to choose their guests.

“You can’t tell him who to interview,” Trump said at the time, noting that Carlson had spoken positively about him over the years.

Thursday’s remarks were the harshest Trump has directed toward Carlson so far. Earlier in the week, Trump had also dismissed Carlson’s criticism, saying it had “no impact” on him.

During the same discussion, Trump also took aim at commentator Megyn Kelly, saying she should “study her history book a little bit.”

“I think that MAGA is Trump,” the president said. “MAGA’s not the other two.”

Trump argued that the movement’s supporters strongly back his current policies, including the military campaign targeting Iran.

Polling released this week shows that a majority of Republican voters support the administration’s actions in Iran, with approval increasing further when voters are presented with the stated goals of the operation.
