Trump to Minnesotans: ‘Day of Reckoning and Retribution Is Coming’ Amid ICE Crackdown, Welfare Scandal

President Donald Trump issued a blunt warning to Minnesota Democrats on Tuesday, declaring that a “day of reckoning and retribution” is on the horizon as his administration escalates its immigration enforcement and fraud investigations across the state.

In a series of posts on Truth Social, Trump said residents of Minnesota shouldn’t be alarmed by the recent legal backlash from state leaders over increased ICE presence. “Fear not, great people of Minnesota, the day of reckoning and retribution is coming,” he wrote.

The comments come just one day after Minnesota and Illinois officials filed a lawsuit challenging the deployment of hundreds of new ICE and CBP agents to their states. The suit argues that the Trump administration’s latest immigration enforcement surge violates the 10th Amendment, infringing on states’ rights.

But the White House isn’t backing down.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem confirmed Sunday that more federal officers are being deployed to Minnesota. She said immigration enforcement is only part of the mission, with the administration also targeting widespread fraud and corruption that has cost taxpayers billions.

Vice President JD Vance echoed that focus, announcing a new Assistant Attorney General position dedicated solely to prosecuting fraud, starting with Minnesota. “We are sending a clear message — if you stole from the American people, we’re coming for you,” Vance said.

At the center of the current unrest in Minnesota is the ICE-related shooting of Renee Good, who authorities say attempted to run over agents during a traffic stop. The incident sparked riots across the Twin Cities, but the administration has firmly backed the agent involved, calling it an act of self-defense against “domestic terrorism.”

President Trump directly addressed the controversy, slamming state leaders for siding with what he described as violent agitators.

“Minnesota Democrats love the unrest that anarchists and professional agitators are causing,” Trump posted. “Do the people of Minnesota really want to live in a community in which there are thousands of already convicted murderers, drug dealers and addicts, rapists, violent released and escaped prisoners, dangerous people from foreign mental institutions and insane asylums, and other deadly criminals too dangerous to even mention?”

“All the patriots of ICE want to do is remove them from your neighborhood and send them back to the prisons and mental institutions from where they came, most in foreign Countries,” he added.

The president also suggested the recent protests are meant to distract from what he described as a massive welfare fraud scandal involving “billions of taxpayer dollars stolen by really bad and deranged people.”

Federal prosecutors estimate that at least $9 billion has been stolen from various aid and benefits programs in Minnesota since 2018, with nearly 100 people charged and 64 convicted. The scandal ultimately forced Governor Tim Walz to drop his reelection bid just days before the ICE-related shooting.

Trump praised ICE agents for “removing violent criminals and parasites from our communities,” and promised that the administration will not be deterred by lawsuits or political blowback.

“Every place we go, crime comes down,” Trump said. “In Chicago, despite a weak and incompetent Governor and Mayor fighting us all the way, a big improvement was made. Thousands of Criminals were removed!”

As the federal crackdown continues, tensions remain high in Minnesota — and the president made it clear the battle is just beginning.
