President Joe Biden signaled that if he wins re-election this fall that Americans should expect to see an increase in their taxes, which comes as many are struggling from the high inflation rates that have defined Biden’s presidency.
A report from the Tax Foundation last month explained that Congress has less than two years to prevent “the vast majority” of Americans from getting hit with tax hikes.
The law that Biden wants to let expire is the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) of 2017, a law that simplified taxes and reduced taxes “across the income spectrum,” the report said.
“The TCJA reduced average tax rates for taxpayers at all income levels because it lowered marginal tax rates, widened tax brackets, doubled the child tax credit and zeroed out personal and dependent exemptions, nearly doubled the standard deduction, and limited several itemized deductions and the alternative minimum tax, among other changes,” the report added. “Average rates declined across all income groups and have remained below their 2017 levels since.”
Biden’s willingness to let the law expire flies in the face of his previous pledge to not raise taxes on those who earn less than $400,000 per year. “Biden just endorsed a $2 trillion tax hike on earners under $400k (breaking his no-new-taxes pledge for such earners), and and endorsed cutting the child credit down to $1,000,” said Manhattan Institute Senior Fellow Brian Riedl. “The White House wants it every way on the TCJA: 1) They demand to end the ‘Trump tax cuts’ – and write a budget claiming all the deficit savings from full expiration, but then also: 2) Pledge to extend for the bottom 98%, which costs $2 trillion over the decade.”

Nearly half of Democrats would support Donald Trump’s plan for mass deportations during his second presidential term, according to new polling data.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) voted Thursday to restore Obama-era net neutrality rules.
Net neutrality rules, initially passed during the Obama administration in 2015, were rolled back under former President Trump in 2017.
However, Republican Commissioner Brendan Carr, who voted against the measure, argued Thursday that the agency “offers up a laundry list of bogus justifications” for bringing broadband service under Title II.
“Today’s order is not about net neutrality,” Carr said. “When we abandoned Title II in 2017, proponents of greater government control flooded the zone with apocalyptic rhetoric. Media outlets and politicians alike mindlessly parroted their claims. They predicted the end of the internet as we know it and that you’ll get the internet one word at a time. Consumers would have to pay for each website they wanted to reach.”
“None of that happened,” he continued. “Americans were subjected to one of the greatest hoaxes in regulatory history.”
The Republican commissioner also argued that major technology companies, instead of internet service providers (ISPs), are the “real abusers of gatekeeper power.”
“Since 2017, we’ve learned that the real abusers of gatekeeper power were not ISPs operating at the physical layer but Big Tech companies at the applications layer,” Carr added. “Perversely, today’s order makes Big Tech behemoths even stronger than before.”

Billionaire financier has bought $400 million of debt owed by radio platform Audacy, which was going through a bankruptcy process
A US Congressman has accused billionaire George Soros of trying to fast-track his acquisition of American radio giant Audacy through the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Fox News has reported.
Soros has bought a major stake in what is the US’ second-largest radio company and could gain “effective control” of more than 220 radio stations across the country, according to previous media reports.
Soros’ investment firm has become the largest shareholder in Audacy, after purchasing around $400 million of debt owed by the media group during its bankruptcy process. After years of declining revenue, Audacy filed for bankruptcy early last month, with $1.9 billion in debt. Should the deal go ahead, the billionaire financier would reportedly part-own broadcasters in 45 US states.Audacy owns 227 music, sports, and talk radio stations in 45 US states. The company also owns CBS Radio, which operates 11 news stations, including San Francisco’s KCBS and New York’s WCBS.

Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs on Tuesday vetoed legislation that would define residency in Arizona and require proof of residency, such as a home rental agreement or ownership, to vote in the state’s elections.
SB 2581 stipulates that “a resident is an individual who has actual physical presence in the state for at least one hundred eighty-one days with the intent to remain” but provides exceptions for individuals to vote if they provide evidence of employment, residential property, child school enrollment, and active duty military service.
Hobbs vetoed SB 2581, claiming that it “creates additional, unnecessary barriers for individuals registering to vote.”
Critics of the bill claim that it would bar out-of-state college students from voting in Arizona’s elections as the bill defines “resident” as an individual physical presence in the state for 181 days with the intent to remain.
However, the bill outlines six exceptions, which would allow students and temporary residents to vote.

THE COUNTY ASSESSOR, THE DIRECTOR OF THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION AND THE COUNTY RECORDER MAY ESTABLISH A PHYSICAL PRESENCE REQUIREMENT OF LESS THAN ONE HUNDRED EIGHTY-ONE DAYS IF THE INDIVIDUAL DEMONSTRATES AN INTENT TO REMAIN BY PROVIDING EVIDENCE OF ANY OF THE FOLLOWING:
1. EMPLOYMENT.
2. PURCHASE OF RESIDENTIAL PROPERTY.
3. RENTAL OF RESIDENTIAL PROPERTY.
4. PURCHASE OF REAL PROPERTY FOR RESIDENTIAL PURPOSES.
5. THE ENROLLMENT OF THE INDIVIDUAL OR THE INDIVIDUAL’S CHILDREN IN A SCHOOL DISTRICT OR CHARTER SCHOOL.
6. ACTIVE DUTY MILITARY SERVICE MEMBER IDENTIFICATION FOR SERVICE MEMBERS AND THEIR DEPENDENTS.
