Trump: U.S. Military Takes Out Venezuela Drug Boat In Caribbean Strike

President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that the U.S. military successfully neutralized a vessel departing Venezuela that was loaded with illegal narcotics. The announcement came during a press conference at the White House, where Trump also revealed that U.S. Space Command headquarters will be relocating from Colorado to Alabama.

“Just moments ago, we shot out a drug-carrying boat,” Trump told reporters. “A lot of drugs were on that boat. You’ll be seeing the details shortly.” He added that he was briefed directly by the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff just before the press conference began.

According to Trump, the boat was operating out of Venezuela and was linked to a designated narco-terrorist organization. “We took it out,” Trump stated. “You’ll get to see that after this meeting is over.”

Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed the strike in a post, writing: “As President Trump just announced, today the U.S. military conducted a lethal strike in the southern Caribbean against a drug vessel that had departed Venezuela. It was being operated by a designated narco-terrorist group.”

The action marks the latest escalation in Trump’s effort to crack down on international drug trafficking and pressure the regime of Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro. Last month, Trump deployed U.S. warships and troops to the Southern Caribbean, citing national security threats posed by narco-terrorist networks operating in the region.

The Trump administration has repeatedly accused Maduro’s regime of orchestrating massive drug smuggling operations into the United States. In response, the U.S. government raised the bounty on Maduro to $50 million, citing deep ties between his government and transnational criminal cartels.

Trump has promised to continue targeting the cartels and their leadership wherever they operate, saying, “There’s more where that came from.”
