President Donald Trump’s newly formed Board of Peace made its global debut Thursday in Davos, where top officials laid out an ambitious postwar vision to transform Gaza into what they’re calling New Gaza — a demilitarized, economically independent region shaped by American investment and free market values.
Appearing at the World Economic Forum alongside Secretary of State Marco Rubio, U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and former senior adviser Jared Kushner described the Gaza agreement not merely as a ceasefire, but the beginning of a sweeping geopolitical transformation.
Witkoff emphasized the significance of what the Trump team has achieved in the region, calling the peace deal and hostage release “something the world thought was impossible.” He confirmed that all hostages had been recovered “except for one,” and promised, “We will bring that body home, too.” More than that, he said, “we have created a sense of hope for what the future can bring.”
Kushner echoed that optimism, offering a detailed outline of what comes next. “Eighty-five percent of Gaza’s GDP has been foreign aid. That’s not sustainable,” he said. “It doesn’t give these people dignity. It doesn’t give them hope.”
Under the Trump doctrine, the goal is to replace Gaza’s dependence on aid with opportunity — by bringing in private investment, industry, and jobs. Kushner spoke of a “master plan,” likening it to the rapid construction of new cities in the Middle East. “In the Middle East, they build cities like this in three years,” he noted. “We’ve already started removing the rubble and doing some of the demolition. And then: New Gaza.”
Security remains a non-negotiable. “Without security, nobody’s going to make investments,” Kushner warned. “We need investments to start giving jobs.” He made clear that Hamas and its ideology are over. “Their mission was to destroy Israel. That has not worked well for the people,” he said bluntly.
Rubio credited Trump directly for “breaking what many believed to be an intractable conflict” and reminded world leaders that this isn’t a typical postwar aid program — it’s a geopolitical reset built on American strength and accountability.
Witkoff and Kushner believe the New Gaza initiative could become a global model. “This is not about speeches or resolutions,” Witkoff said. “This is about action, implementation, and belief — belief that even the deepest conflicts can be solved.”
Kushner closed by reiterating the scope of the challenge and opportunity: “Once this starts going, we think there should be 100% full employment and opportunity for everybody.”
The Board of Peace’s plan for Gaza is shaping up to be one of the most sweeping and high-stakes diplomatic projects in recent U.S. history.
