Presidential favorability metrics serve as a real-time reflection of the sentiments of American citizens, typically influenced by the President’s ongoing management of critical issues. Trump took off at an impressive pace in his second term, and there appears to be no hint of deceleration. Despite the soaring egg prices and widespread layoffs across the government sector, Trump’s presidential likability index remained unwavering during the initial two months and even attained his all-time peak during either of his tenures.
Signs of a nominal dip suggest a shift in the public’s perception, seemingly attributed to relentless tariffs, trade altercations, and growing concerns of a potential economic downturn. In an unparalleled move that ignited a worldwide trade dispute, Trump announced a minimum of 10% tariffs for all nations, with even higher percentages for certain countries and trade entities last week.
Rasmussen Reports’ daily survey findings suggest that Trump managed to uphold a comparatively solid job approval quotient of over 50% on any day following his inauguration — until the momentous tariff announcement on April 3. From there, his rating experienced a consistent slide to currently rest at 47% approval and 51% disapproval.
The latest Harvard CAPS/Harris poll disclosed that 49% of registered voters appreciate Trump’s performance in office, a slight decline from 52% in the preceding month’s poll. Interestingly, this poll also discovered that more than half of the participating voters (54%) believe Trump is outperforming his predecessor, former President Joe Biden.
Referring to the most recent Reuters/Ipsos poll, Trump’s mop-up is found favorable by 42%. In regard to the overall direction in which the country is moving, a mere 22% of the respondents felt positive about it, while an overwhelming majority of 61% expressed discontent and felt the nation was on an incorrect trajectory.
Despite this, Trump continues to score fairly well when it comes to his immigration policy direction, with 48% approval compared to a 44% disapproval rate. His actions related to Russia and Ukraine, however, were not received particularly well, with 48% and 46% disapproval ratings, respectively.
When surveyed about tariff policies, respondents were asked to agree or disagree with the statement, ‘In general, when the U.S. imposes tariffs on imported goods, it benefits American workers’. The data showed that 45% of respondents disagreed with the statement while only 31% expressed agreement.
In the case of Vice President JD Vance, he records a favorable view from 41% of the population, however, a slightly higher percentage of 49% do not share this sentiment. Based on compiled data from RealClear Polling that includes feedback from 13 different poll analysts, Trump’s general popularity exhibits a downward trend to 47.5% versus 49.9% that disapprove.
