Senator Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) revealed Monday that U.S. intelligence contradicts Iranian and media claims that Tehran successfully moved nuclear materials before President Donald Trump’s airstrikes over the weekend.
Speaking on CNBC, Mullin said that while some outlets circulated satellite images claiming Iran was evacuating Fordo ahead of the strike, U.S. intelligence believes the opposite occurred.
“They didn’t move the material. In fact, we believe they stored more of it in Fordo because they thought it was impenetrable,” Mullin said. “We have the ability to destroy things people thought were undestroyable.”
The Fordo site, buried nearly 300 feet under a mountain, was one of three key nuclear facilities hit by U.S. forces on Saturday, alongside Natanz and Isfahan. Mullin, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, said the strikes “severely damaged, if not completely destroyed” Iran’s nuclear weapons capability.
Satellite images of trucks outside the Fordo facility were likely misinterpreted, according to experts. Spencer Faragasso of the Institute for Science and International Security said the vehicles were dump trucks used for reinforcing tunnels—not for transporting sensitive nuclear materials. “Moving uranium and centrifuges in dump trucks is reckless,” he said, noting the likelihood of damage or leakage.
Post-strike imagery shows tunnel entrances filled with debris, either from the bomb impact or from attempted reinforcements. Mullin emphasized that if any nuclear capabilities survived, the U.S. and its allies would finish the job.
“President Trump has made it clear for over a decade—we will not allow the world’s leading sponsor of terror to acquire a nuclear weapon,” Mullin said.
Trump echoed that message on Truth Social, declaring the sites were “totally destroyed” and slamming the media for spreading misinformation. “It never ends with the sleazebags in the Media,” Trump wrote. “Their ratings are at an ALL TIME LOW — ZERO CREDIBILITY!”
