In a deeply compelling development on Tuesday evening, members of the New York City Police Department (NYPD) were compelled to intervene at the Morningside campus of Columbia University. The university has been witnessing a clear encroachment by anti-Israel protesters who have steadily escalated their occupation over recent weeks.
The precipitating catalyst that set these events into motion was the occupation of Hamilton Hall by these agitators. In a brazen display of unlawful audacity, they installed themselves securely within the building’s confines and erected barricades to avoid being ousted.
In response to this escalating crisis, the NYPD received the necessary permissions from Columbia University to undertake a decisive intervention. In a testament to their professionalism and commitment to upholding peace, dozens of these disrupters were successfully apprehended and placed under arrest.
The broader context depicting the current state of various cities across America underscores a worrying development. An insidious disregard for law and order seems to be gaining ground, creating chaotic scenarios such as one experienced at Columbia University.
The difference, however, is that in other places the situation is often direr compared to the current situation in New York. This is in no small part due to the commendable resolve and efficiency of our NYPD officers. This incident served as a testament to their unwavering courage as they scaled through windows and confronted the disruptions fearlessly.
However, the undeniable reality remains that the situation should never have escalated to such a point. It is disheartening to realize that a decisive intervention could have neutralized the situation before it snowballed into the disturbing spectacle that ended up being the case. There were opportunities to avert the eventual crisis when the protesters occupied tents rather than a building.
These unsettling events have given birth to a renewed urgency on the need for adherence to law and order. The discredit to our nation’s perceived respect and order, both domestically and abroad, stands in stark contradiction to the values that have defined our history.
The displeasure with how things have fared is far from nebulous. Rather, it can be decisively traced to the incumbent President Biden and his distinct lack of proactive measures to counteract the surge of anti-Semitism.
There now exists a palpable nostalgia for a time, just a few years ago, when the phenomenon of anti-Semitism was barely conceivable. This drastic change, believed to be perpetuated by a number of legislators in Congress, has been met with a conspicuous and disappointing lack of action from Biden.
As the presumed voice of our nation, the expectations from Biden are understandably high. Yet, these expectations feel continually unmet. Biden’s voice feels like a mere whisper in the wind; it possesses neither the strength nor the audibility to shape national discussion. This, some might argue, is a shattering disservice to his position and to the country.
In the face of a crisis, a nation expects its leader to be present and engaged, a beacon amidst turmoil. Irony hence drips in the face of Biden’s glaring absence at the height of the crisis at Columbia University. An 8:55 PM lid on White House activities only compounded this scenario of presidential inactivity.
Biden’s non-response to the violent protest opens the door to significant critique, a sentiment echoed by other voices in American politics. When the nation needed leadership, it found little more than silence.
A resounding question that strikes at the heart of this situation, raised on Truth Social, eloquently sums up the national sentiment: ‘Where’s SLEEPY JOE? He’s SLEEPING, that’s where!!!’
PRESIDENT TRUMP: Biden has to do something. Biden is supposed to be the voice of our country and it’s certainly not much of a voice. It’s a voice that nobody has heard. pic.twitter.com/lI5ukKeE6x

PRESIDENT TRUMP: New York City’s Finest have been incredible—they were not afraid of anything… But it should have never gotten to this and they should’ve done it a lot sooner than before they took over the building. pic.twitter.com/lQt2ZqeGvh
